Happy Easter!

And I mean happy! If this outfit doesn't make you smile even just a little bit, then you might want to get your heart checked out. You may be dead. I admit to being obnoxious with my outfits sometimes, but fashion is all about self-expression and today I was feeling FUN. I bought this tee shirt and bracelet on sale prior to putting myself on a Kate Spade shopping ban. (My wallet needs it, I still love her.) And these shoes! This is actually the only pair of Chucks I own, and I got them for $25. Small price to pay for all the smiles.

Kate Spade tee, bracelet, and ring
Express plaid top and jeans
Converse Chuck Taylor in Raspberry

We are doing family stuff today, typical holiday style. Hope you all have a very fun and bright Easter! Oh, and I'm taking a poll, do you all actually eat Peeps?

Pinspiration of the week: Blazer and "leather" leggings

Left and Middle Photos: Source
I picked two separate photos because I loved the idea of pairing the leggings with nude pumps and an ivory/beige blazer - I figured I'd combine the two looks. Plus, I think my feet are tired of wearing boots right now...

Express blazer and faux leather leggings (now 40% off!)
Chiffon ruffled top from Dillard's
Forever 21 cuff
Christian Louboutin Decollete pumps
Oakley sunglasses

Let's see, what drew me to this look? I was feeling a bit icky today, not really wanting to be dressed up, but also not wanting to wear jeans. Again. It's a bit too cold still to wear a dress bare legged and the thought of wearing tights and boots made me want to gag. (Sorry, boots, I still love you. I just need a break.) I recently purchased these leggings and wanted to wear them in a way that didn't scream "Oh hai I'm wearing pleather leggings!!" I loved the idea of pairing it with a blazer and heels to keep it on the dressy side. I've had this khaki blazer in my closet, sitting there unworn for awhile. I'm a firm believer in always having your crotch and butt covered in leggings. This shirt and blazer combo was perfect. I felt covered and didn't have to incessantly tug at the bottom of the blazer to make sure my butt wasn't hanging out. And proportions-wise, the blazer hits me just below the hip, which helps balance out my look and the skinny silhouette of the leggings. Super, super easy and you can't even tell I feel bloated and disgusting! Or if you can, please don't tell me. Just smile and nod.

PS The nude color of these pumps is the perfect match to my skin tone, n'est pas?

5W5D: Cuffed skinny jeans

Well, we've made it to the end, folks! If you've kept up with me all week for the 5 Days, 5 Ways link up - thank you! Be sure to check in with Franziska's and Whitney's blogs since they are the co-hosts of this awesome link up. While you're there, sift through some of the other bloggers like me who have chosen to link up. So many inspiring ideas out there!

We are finishing out this week with a "Casual Friday" theme. Because my office is pretty laid back, I have the luxury of making any day of the week a casual Friday, so I wasn't sure what I wanted to feature. Plus, I was really enjoying seeing one piece repurposed in 5 different ways. Therefore, I decided to go ahead and tie my Casual Friday theme down to one simple thing - the REROCK SKINNY EMBELLISHED ROLLED CUFF JEAN from Express.

I mentioned earlier in the week that it's funny to see trends in my outfits. Apparently, I really like to wear sequins with these jeans. I don't know if it's the embellished pockets that are brainwashing me to do this, but I had to laugh when I saw these photos next to each other. I mean, sequins are awesome, what can I say?

L: Dots | M: Gingham | R: Cashmere

This has truly been fun and inspired me to create more of these remix type posts in the future. This challenge has also encouraged me to seek out new ways to wear pieces, i.e. wear individual pieces more often, which in theory should cut down on my shopping. In theory... no promises. :)

I'm also linking up with Amy at Coffee Beans and Bobby Pins because it is Friday after all! Today she's featuring my blog in her Friday Five, which gives me the biggest happy because she's one of my favorites! Click below to check it all out, and link up, too, while you're there!

5W5D: Striped dress

Linking up with Whitney at Along the Lines of Style (co-hosted by Franziska over at Franish the first half of the week) for day 4 of the 5 Ways, 5 Days challenge! Whew - that's a mouthful!

Today's focus is on dresses. OK, so the problem here is my wardrobe is super heavy on the dresses. Easily, and I mean easily, I own upwards of 120 dresses or so? The majority of my dresses are statement pieces that are pretty recognizable, so unless my audience changes 5 different times, the chances of me wearing one single dress 5 times in the last 9 months I've been documenting my outfits are pretty slim. However, the only exceptions to this rule are my striped, dropped shoulder dresses I talked about in one of my first blog posts

The thing about these dresses is that they are easy - easy fit, easy to throw on and go, easy to wear alone, or easy to layer to create different looks. They are my foolproof outfit. The thing I can go to in my closet that I will always feel good in. I do own 7 of them in different colors now, so I have more to choose from, but I was able pick my 5 looks between 2 of the colors. Even though one dress is black and the other is grey, I think all looks are interchangeable between both dress colors. Who else has this dress? Amazing, yeah?

Tomorrow is the last day of this link up challenge, so be sure to check back to see how we've ended the week! You know, if you follow me on Bloglovin' I'll automatically pop up in your news feed. Just trying to save you a couple of mouse clicks. :) Oh, and as always, you can see my outfits of the day by clicking on the "Just Outfits" tab at the top of the page.  No added commentary, just snapshots of my outfits and a list of the items I'm wearing. Whether you choose to just check out my outfits or take the time to read through these posts, thank you for visiting!

5W5D: Printed scarf

Today's 5 Ways, 5 Days link up is hosted over at Whitney's blog "Along the Lines of Style." Franziska hosted the first two days, and Whitney will finish off the week. This has been a lot of fun for me, if you could not tell. Today's focus is on accessories. Let's just get to it - here are the looks.

If you've read My Style post, you'll see that I feel I can improve on my accessorizing, so today was difficult for me to choose a piece, not only that I've documented at least 5 times, but that was interesting enough to blog about specifically. Looking through my photos, I decided to choose this red and purple animal-print-like scarf I got from Express. Red is my favorite color. I've said that before. But not only that, it's just easy to match with - as you saw from my wine skinnies post yesterday. The weight of this scarf is light enough to take me through all seasons (yes, I'm that girl that wears scarves in the summer.) For today's Animal on Animal look, I tied the corners together and wore it infinity scarf style. I love the way it drapes like this! What is your favorite way to tie a scarf?

Tomorrow's focus is on dresses! It's not to late to join the party!

5W5D: Wine colored skinnies

Franish

Usually Tuesday is Shoesday in this neck of the woods and I highlight a pair from my collection. But, I will take a break from that this week, if you don't mind, because this is day 2 of the 5 Days, 5 Ways link up, co-hosted by Franziska over at Franish. This exercise has been a bit time consuming, I will not lie, but I'm digging the end result of seeing my outfits with the shared piece, side by side. Today's focus is on pants. Originally, I thought this was going to be tougher to pull together because I seldom wear pants that are not jeans. But then I remembered my wine colored skinnies from Express that I bought last October that I could wear over and over again. And I have! Let's reminisce, shall we?

Gosh, seeing these photos makes me want to wear these pants right. This. Second. It's really interesting to see trends in my looks - clearly I feel confident that leopard pairs well with wine. I also love the mixing textures with these pants - patent, cashmere, suede, chiffon. The pants quickly become the focus when paired with neutrals like navy or ivory, but then just as easily take the back seat when paired with emerald or mustard. I'm pretty excited to style them for the warmer months with tanks and wedge sandals, so stay tuned! That's assuming spring and summer will get here eventually...

5W5D: Zara striped peplum jacket

Franish

You guys are getting two posts from me today because I totally forgot about the 5 Ways 5 Days Link Up I wanted to participate in that Franish is co-hosting. My favorite thing to see bloggers do is share photos of the different ways they have styled one piece - I love the way this is shared over at Nany's Klozet. That is basically what this week long link up party is all about! Today's focus is on tops.

I literally just spent about a half hour going through all my outfit pictures to figure out what top I wanted to show re-mixed. Sadly, the only top that I have photographed of me wearing at least 5 times is my infamous JCrew Factory chambray top, worn most recently here. But I feel like the reason why I can wear it so much is because it's a great base layer. It works to complement the outfit, and more often than not, it is meant to disappear more than it is meant to be the focus. To me a chambray top is the shirt version of jeans. So, I decided to pick more of a standout piece - my zip up peplum jacket from Zara. Unfortunately, this means that you guys are only getting 3 ways because I clearly did not plan for this challenge well enough. However, I will cheat a little bit because I originally bought this jacket after seeing it on Jenny at Crazy Style Love. I will add two of her outfits here to complete my five.

L: "This belt" | R: "Extra Pep"

You can see why it was easy for me to fall in love with it after seeing the way she styles it. It's such an easy jacket that pairs wonderfully with bright colors - it's great to see how I have a tendency to pair this with reds, but she shows how perfectly it goes with blues as well. The 3/4 length sleeves make it the perfect transitional piece from season to season. Such a great staple!

Lexington, KY

I mentioned on Friday that I was going to Lexington to visit my sister in law for the weekend for her birthday. It was awesome! Lots of fun and festivities. I figured I'd give you a recap!

We arrived Friday at around 7pm. Enough time to get some Mexican for dinner and hang out at a local karaoke bar for the night. Low key, but still very fun and entertaining.

Saturday, our first stop was the Wild Turkey distillery. I had never been to a distillery before, so I really didn't know what to expect. It was interesting how old and rustic everything looked, but in a very industrial way. Honestly, the buildings looked like they were something out of Shawshank Redemption - very prison-like and completely different than what you'd see at a winery, which is what I am used to. I felt like I stepped back into the days of prohibition. Not complaining though, this was a very cool tour, especially considering it was free. The approach to the distillery was via this winding bridge - the views were amazing.

We went into the building above on the left where there were stacks and stacks of barrels stored. Apparently, back when this was originally built, the average height for a man was 5'-6" so everything was quite low. This was my favorite stop on the tour. Here's a view from the inside. I admit, I kept thinking this would be an awesome place for blog photos!

We grabbed a quick bite to eat then headed to a winery. The weather was pretty amazing - it was sunny and in the 50's. A little too cold to sit outside at the winery, but still gorgeous.

We only hung out here for about an hour or so, then headed back to her place to relax and recharge for our girl's night out. On the way, I got to snag a quick pic of this real life castle! If you follow me on Instagram, you've already seen this, but it's too good not to share here also.

That night, we went to a couple of bars downtown where we proceeded to dance and laugh and people watch and, did I say dance? It was the four of us girls with one guy who was a total trooper, not only for chaperoning and chauffeuring us, but being so patient and never complaining - like when it took us 2.5 hours to get ready and when we insisted on eating at Denny's after leaving the bar where we waited over an hour for our food!

I'm so glad we had such a great weekend with true spring weather. Because this is what I came home to. Our biggest snow storm this season. Apparently winter did not get the memo that it's actually spring now. Sigh.

Hope you all had a great weekend and that you are not covered in snow!! Would love to hear about any fun stuff you did!

Nordstrom Triple Points Purchases

Has anyone else taken advantage of this? Ironically, or conveniently, depending on how you want to look at this, triple points always lands around the time our bonuses come in at work. Typically my bonus goes to 3 things: paying off any debt, savings, and a fun purchase. Last year the fun purchase was my YSL Tribute sandals.

I made an appointment with my SA to try on some shoes. To say she's awesome is an undersatement. She had a stack of shoes (at least 8 pairs) waiting for me by the time I got there, and also walked the floor with me. Here's what I tried on and their respective reviews.

Round 1
Clockwise from top left: 1. Sam Edelman "Sasha" in Zebra,  2. Vince Camuto "Jiris"
3. Valentino Rockstud Wedge, 4. Joan and David "Isleen", 5. Vince Camuto "Hallee",

1. Sam Edelman "Sasha" in Zebra: I loved these immediately. They are so fun! The thicker straps laid perfect on my feet, and were very comfortable. I felt like these would be super versatile in the summer - I was picturing skinny white jeans, red sundress, turquoise anything. They're a bit chunky, but I didn't feel like they looked out of proportion when these were on me, and remember I'm a short 5'-2".

2. Vince Camuto "Jiris": These caught my eye as soon as I walked in. I've really been into suede this year like crazy. And I loved how this had a lace-up look to them. It's a sling back, but with enough strappies to keep your foot secure. The heel is cobalt and the platform is neon. Two of my favorite things right now. They fit very comfortably, and of course, they were the last size 6 in the store.

3. Valentino Rockstud Wedge: So, funny story about these shoes. I was wearing a dress and tights that day, not knowing I was going shoe shopping until I was already at work. Needless to say, these wedges are wonderful, but they looked a bit silly with dark tights on. Not to mention that it was hard to get a gauge for how they'd truly fit because your foot will naturally slide in your shoe with the slickness of the tights. They ended up unlocking this secret spa room behind the makeup section for an emergency tights removal. Once the tights were off, I decided the fit was perfect. They ended up being a half size larger than my regular size, but I felt they'd be too narrow if I sized down (they didn't have my normal size in the store for me to try.)

4. Joan and David "Isleen" wedge: The wedge is cork, but I was in love with the fact that it was a snakeskin print. And I've been on a search for a good turquoise sandal, so when she opened the box, I was optimistic. They were comfortable, but too closed up for a sandal. They covered my foot more like a peep toe bootie, and I felt like this style cut my legs off in an unflattering way.

5. Vince Camuto "Hallee" pump: Well, if you keep up with my blog regularly, you've already seen me wear them, so no need to rehash this review. Just see my post about them here.

6. Sam Edelman "Sasha" in Nude Leopard: I ended up putting one of these on my left foot and the zebra version on the right foot. As much as I love color pop, I just felt that the color took away from the versatility of the leopard. Leopard normally goes with everything. Seriously, everything. But the reddish orange detracted from this and would limit what I could wear these with. If I was going to get this wedge, the zebra was for sure the winner.

OK, so that was Round 1. So far my yes pile consisted of #1, #2, #3, and #5. This was going to be a tough decision.

Round 2
Clockwise from top left: 7. Vera Wang "Qatara", 8. Valentino Bow Platform
9. Valentino Black pump with gold crystal bow10. Valentino Rockstud Studded-Heel pump

Here is how the Round 2 contenders did:

7. Vera Wang "Qatara" sandal: I was really excited seeing these come out of the box. I'm always a sucker for any mix of color, pattern, and texture. It was just a very sweet and delicate looking shoe. But it felt super weird on my foot. Typically in heels, your feet naturally fall forward on the ball of your feet, right? These sandals made me feeling like I was falling backwards into my heel. It was the strangest sensation. And, I didn't like the top view. The toe bed came to a point, so there was a gap from the end of my toes to the end of the shoe. These shoes just were not flattering at all on my feet, which really bummed me out because I totally loved them in theory.

8. Valentino Bow Platform: They didn't have this particular style in my size, so I really just tried them on for effect. There's not much to say about this iconic shoe. It's even more beautiful in real life than in photos. I was struggling because I really wanted to add a Valentino to my collection, and didn't know if I should do one of the classics like this or hold out for the commonly known Rockstud T-strap (which they didn't have in the store) or just get the espadrille from above. Decisions, decisions.

9. Valentino gold crystal bow pump: These were just perfect. Honestly, I knew I wouldn't buy these because they're such a special occasion shoe, and something like this deserves to be worn more than once a year. But, I just wanted to try them on. Scratch that. I *needed* to try them on. The bow is spectacular, although not as perky and solid as the patent pump. This bow will relax in shape over time. Still absolutely beautiful and timeless and classic and perfect.

10. Valentino Rockstud studded heel pump: This picture does not do the shoe justice, so allow me to share a couple more:

The  wavy shape of this shoe is so sexy and different, and the studded heel adds edge. Such great detailing on a basic black pump. The leather instantly molded to my feet. I have a tendency to turn to patent first, but nothing beats the comfort and softness of regular leather. I tried these on a half size smaller than I usually wear because my size wasn't available in store, and they ended up fitting great. The cut of the shoe, and how it rises higher at the top of the heel created different pressure points on my feet that I'm not used to - it kind of felt like my feet would slip out of the shoe while I walked, but they stayed put, even when I walked quickly on tile.

OK, so what did I choose and how'd I end up making my decision?

The Winners

I decided that I wanted the black Valentino pumps. The t-straps and the bow pumps have been around forever, and they probably will remain around forever, so if I ever decide I still want to get them later on in life, they will be available. However, this pair is seasonal and may never be made again. My only hesitation on the black pump was that I already have these Michael Kors pumps with a faux zipper detail at the back. I wasn't sure if these Valentinos were too similar with the "business in the front, party in the rear" concept. But, I had been wanting a non-patent black pump, and if I'm going to do it, it may as well be a Valentino, right?

So, then what about the espadrille? I knew I would regret it if I didn't buy them. And bonus time is my one chance in the year to splurge and reward myself for the craziness that is called work, so I decided to get these also. Two totally different Valentino styles, but great items to add to my collection.

Since I was getting this espadrille, I decided to say no to the Sam Edelman zebra wedges. For now. My SA is keeping that on my sale alert list, so we will see if I still want them in the future. The two Vince Camutos were easy sells for me. Especially since I had enough Nordstrom notes to cover them, so they were free! I don't have anything like either in my collection right now, so it was just meant to be.

Whew. That's it! Thanks for sticking with me and reading all of that! This whole shoe visit ended up taking two hours! I can't speak highly enough of the level of customer service I get at Nordstrom. Not just from my SA, but in general whether online, in the store, or over the phone. One time I placed an order for 5 items via instant message, and the level of service was just as professional and attentive as you'd get in person. Shopping should always be this amazing!

Now you spill it! Did you take advantage of triple points time?
