Track pants

Earrings: Target (option) | Necklace: NY&Co (option) | Sweater: Express (option, option) | Track pants: Express (option)  | Heels: Michael by Michael Kors

Can you guys tell I've been experimenting in different parts of the house with the tripod? Just trying to find spots that work inside when I can't take outside pics. I decided to do today's look in my closet room. Even though these views here and here are my favorite, the spot I'm standing in these photos is where I spend the majority of my time when I'm in my closet room - whether it's using my mirror or picking out jewelry.

As far as this outfit - I've been digging the track pants look, what can I say? I thought it would be perfect for a casual Friday. I don't know why but the gathered ankle on the pants makes all the difference in the world to me vs something like this:

...which I feel can make me look stumpy, perhaps that's just me. Definitely a bit on the trendy side, and since I decided to go with the animal print sweater and zipper back heels, I kept the accessorizing to a minimum. Call me crazy, but I kinda love these pants. A lot.

Geometric

Coat: Wilson's Leather (option, option) | Necklace: Francesca's | Top: JCrew Factory (option) (similar, but not similar, but still love this!) | Bracelets: Kate Spade (option), Kate Spade (option), Cara (option) | Skirt: Trouve (crazy sale, but limited sizes) | Tights: DKNY (option) | Booties: Pedro Garcia (similar, limited sizes) (budget option)

In case you missed my Monday post, I had attempted to wear my silver metallic skirt, but it ended up not looking right. So if you're counting, I have two metallic skirts. Today's and Monday's. Too much? My biggest challenge is trying not to look like a Fembot. Seriously. Which is why I stayed away from knee high boots. Luckily this top was perfect to pair with today's skirt - it was my first choice, so I didn't have to go through a lot of trial and error. I love the circle lace next to the asymmetrical skirt. Geometric dichotomy at its best!

The good (or bad) thing about taking outfit photos everyday is that you see the pictures and sometimes think - OMG is that how I really look?? In this case, it was the fact that the skirt's black liner was peeking out of the bottom. I didn't notice that looking in the mirror getting dressed. We took photos after I got ready, I downloaded the photos onto my iPad during the commute to work (the husband drives), and that's when I noticed the liner showing. It wouldn't go away! Literally, as soon as I got to work, I went to the bathroom with a pair of scissors and trimmed the liner about an inch all the way around. Ahh, so much better - I hate having to fidget and fuss with my clothes to keep things tucked or concealed or whatnot. Too bad I didn't notice it *before* I took these photos. At least you guys know I don't use photoshop! :)

Workout wear and Hello Fresh

Scarf: Lululemon (gifted) (Etsy options here) | Jacket: Lululemon (gifted) | Top: Old Navy | Bottoms: Old Navy | Shoes: Asics

I decided to do something different today. Every Wednesday I've been linking up with Fitness Blondie for The Hump Day Blog Hop. Since Liz has a fitness/ lifestyle blog, I decided to tailor this week's post to her genre of topics. This also helps keep me accountable for my new year's resolution to work on my fitness. I've been wanting to blog about this for awhile now anyway. Let's start with workout wear.

So yes, I'm donning some infamous Lululemon for this outfit. I've talked a little bit about my feelings for Lululemon in a previous post. Yes, I'll splurge on shoes here and there. Or a dress. Or a handbag. But I haven't felt the need to do this for workout wear yet. I did cave and get the vinyasa scarf. Ok, two of them. I bought two vinyasa scarves. However, luckily, nothing else has tempted me. My sister bought me this jacket a couple of years ago, and yes, of course, I'll take some gifted Lululemon, duh. How fun is this peplum? And there's a hidden pocket under there that I just discovered today!

Obviously the average worker-outer is probably not going to be dishing money for Lulu. When I signed up for Pilates again this year, I realized I didn't have form-fitting workout clothes that still fit me. They encourage form-fitting attire so that the instructor can properly see your form. I made a quick stop into Old Navy, which conveniently had all their athletic wear at the front of the store - perfect for resolutioners like myself! I ended up getting 3 whole workout outfits for less than $75 - less than the cost of one pair of Wunder Unders. So far, I've been completely happy with the fit and quality, especially for the price. Then I also stocked up on some other pieces when Express was having their 40% off everything sale this past weekend. These are the kinds of pieces that catch my eye:

Workout wear
Scarf: Lululemon | Cobalt tee: Express | Printed crops: Old Navy | Running sneaks: Asics | Cardigan: Oakley Vault (option) | Pink tank: Old Navy | Grey leggings: Old Navy | Bra top: Old Navy | Blue crops: Old Navy | Open back long sleeve tee: Express | Black leggings: Express | Cardigan: Oakley Vault (option| Banded waist tank: Old Navy | Camo leggings: Express | Slip on sneaks: Skechers

OK, so I also wanted to tell you guys about Hello Fresh. And no, I am not getting paid for writing this review, nothing free, I'm just so happy I discovered this service! If you follow me on Instagram, you'll note that I post a lot of food pictures in addition to my outfits, the beagle, or the Cardinals (though it's off season right now, so…) I admit that I am worthless when it comes to grocery shopping. I don't mind cooking, but the chore of grocery shopping and meal planning is so time consuming that by the time you add up my hours I work for my day job plus the hours I spend on this blog (it's truly like a second job), that doesn't leave much time left for anything else. I don't know how you mothers do everything PLUS take care of kids. I admire you for this because I couldn't possibly have enough hours in the day to just take care of me, the husband, and the beagle. That's where Hello Fresh comes in.

You subscribe to their service, but can cancel at any time, and also suspend your account if you're going to be traveling or whatnot. You pick the amount of meals you want delivered (for us it's 3 meals x two people). Every week they showcase the recipes that will be delivered the following week - so I have 5 choices to pick my 3 meals from. Then, once a week (our delivery day is Wednesday), a box comes to your doorstep.

Everything is pre-portioned for exactly 2 people, or however many people you specify, with the exact ingredients to make the meals you've chosen. They separate the ingredients by meal, and label everything clearly. They even include recipe cards with step by step instructions and nutritional information. Each meal is designed to only take 30 minutes to prepare and the calories range from 300-600 per meal. All food is high quality and delivered fresh. The portions are exact, so there are no leftovers. However, each portion is hearty, especially considering the relatively low calorie count. I've been so thrilled with the service, quality, and convenience - I really have been meaning to blog about this for awhile. We've been subscribing for almost 8 weeks now, and it has changed my life.

The only downside is that I believe the furthest west they go is Chicago, so all you west coasters, I apologize for teasing you with all these wonderful food photos (which are all actual meals and photos I've done myself, by the way.) Anyway, you can get more information on their website at hellofresh.com. OK, so I just realized that I can get you $20 off your first box if you're interested - use this code: QD4TFU. I promise I'm not just recommending this for the referral credit though, just figured you may want $20 off! It's really amazing, and I can't speak enough about how much easier it's made my life, not to mention all the calories it's saving me from not having to eat out every night!!

I think I've talked your ear off enough! Hope you found some or all of this to be helpful! I can't believe it's almost February so I should be 1/12th the way into my resolutions! Scary thought!!

UPDATE March 2016: I felt the need to update this review because my feelings of Hello Fresh are quite different than they were when I originally wrote this post. And in case anyone comes across this post now, I wanted to make sure I let you all know how this fairy tale ends. We subscribed to Hello Fresh for about 2 years, and while everything in this post is still true, it didn't end so well.

Over the course of two years, they constantly updated their packaging, I assume to make it more efficient and effective. Well, the last few months of our service, we had repeat issues with meat packages being open in the box. It was a bloody mess to open, and basically ruined one to all three of the meals that week. Each time I reported it and they would give us a credit to our account equal to the amount of meals that were ruined. While that's fine, it kind of defeats the purpose of relying on these boxes of food for meals when we can't even use them, and then all the waste! The boxes, the food, it just became a bit overwhelming to have to throw away time and time again.

Finally, I had enough after getting yet another open meat in our box. I canceled our service. Well, even though I canceled almost two weeks before our next scheduled delivery, it was still "too late" so I had one more box I had to put up with. Fine, whatever. I get that final box, and YET AGAIN, I had another open meat! I called customer service and their response was, "Yes, we see you canceled your service." Ok, well what are you going to do about this last box that has an open meat again? I'm not paying for food I can't eat. They tell me all they can do is post a credit to my account, which they figured I didn't want since I canceled my service. So, basically I got screwed over again and wasted $60 on a box of trash. Insult to injury.

It is sad that it ended that way. I'm now wary of trying any other similar service. Lucky for us, we found a local meal delivery service who delivers food in a cooler on our front porch every week, which means WAYYYY less waste and the menu is a lot more flexible than Hello Fresh's menu and schedule were. If you're local to the St. Louis metro east area, you should check it out, it's called Entrees by Laura.

Pinspiration: Mustard, coral, plaid, leopard

I feel like I haven't done an actual Pinspiration post in awhile, so here you go! I fell in love with this color combo the second I saw it and pinned it without even thinking! I decided to put the leopard on my feet instead of on my shoulder. I can honestly say that I never pattern mixed before blogging. So much inspiration out there, it's hard not to pull from it and experiment for yourself! It's an added bonus when you actually do love it! And I do!

Cardigan: Banana Republic (option, option)  | Top: JCrew Factory (option) | Tank: Hanes | Scarf: Anthropologie | Bracelet: Stella and Dot | Watch: Kate Spade (option) | Jeans: Express Rerock (option) | Smoking flats: Kenneth Cole Reaction (option, option)

I was feeling so excited for spring this weekend because we *almost* hit 60-degrees. It was amazing! Even 40-degrees felt so warm after the crazy cold temps we'd be feeling. Of course it was very short lived. The high yesterday was 13, and the high today is 20. Thinking I may ditch these flats for my leopard booties instead…

Manic Monday: Adjustments

I've been wanting to wear this anchor shirt for awhile! I originally planned to wear it with this metallic skirt and my new metallic booties. I got dressed, even went through the motions of taking photos. But once I saw all the photos on my iPad, I decided the outfit needed some adjustments. These booties with the metallic skirt was a bit much. And the taupe tights were reading too much like pantyhose! *shivers*

Since the booties have a purplish undertone, I knew they'd be perfect with my plum skinnies. And since I was nixing the silver skirt, I decided to switch out the silver multi-strand necklace with a couple of different ones worn layered. I definitely feel more comfortable and satisfied with this new ensemble.

Earrings: Target (option) | Necklaces: Banana Republic (option), Express (option) | Top: Express (option) | Pants: Express (option) | Belt: Urban Outfitters (option) | Bangles: Misc mix (option) | Booties: Jeffrey Campbell | Sunnies: Tom Ford (option)

Mix it Monday: See how else I've styled these skinnies!

In terms of other adjustments - you may or may not have noticed, but as a one-year present to my blog, I finally took the plunge and bought my own domain. So, you can now find me at morepiecesofme.com! My blogspot address will re-direct to my domain, so this is really a seamless change for you readers. Such a small detail, but makes me quite happy. And then on top of this, I also bought a new 50mm lens. I can't believe I waited this long to buy one. Seriously. Such a huge difference, and I'm excited to experiment more with it! Finally, as you can see from these photos, I've been practicing using a camera remote. The husband was out of town, so I took these photos all by myself! I need to try the 2 second delay function so that my hand isn't in an awkward position. But, for my first go, I was pretty pleased with myself!

Remixing a maxi

Sunnies: Marc by Marc Jacobs (option) | Earrings: Express (option) | Scarf: Express (sold out in brown, but available in grey here) (option) | Jacket: Express (available in black here) (option - over 65% off! - here) | Dress: Banana Republic (option, Target dupe here) | Bracelets: Pyramid stretch (Gifted) (option), Leopard wrap (Express) (option) | Boots: Corso Como (option)

I've been all about dresses this past week! You last saw this dress here, at the end of summer/ beginning of fall with a multi-strand necklace, flat sandals, and a cognac bag. For winter, I decided to carry over the cognac, but on my feet this time in the form of boots. It's always so hard for me to style maxi dresses and skirts for the winter because the shoes never feel quite right - I end up feeling bottom heavy. But these boots were perfect because of their low profile sole and simple design. A friend styled this dress with a jacket and scarf, so I followed her lead. The leopard scarf fell naturally in place to complement the color of my boots! I really love how a few pieces can take this dress through the winter.

If you missed my post yesterday, More Pieces of Me turned 1! You can check it out here!

Throwback Thursday: 1-year edition

One year. I can't believe it's already been one year since I started this little blog of mine. It's crazy because I obviously have more to learn and more room to grow, but I already feel like I've come a long way since then. To commemorate my one year, I thought it would be fun to capitalize on a Throwback Thursday kind of theme and not only highlight some of the more popular outfits over the last year, but physically re-wear them for a photoshoot! One of our friends, Ryan, is a photographer who was kind enough to lug all his equipment over here and spend a few hours with me as I relived the last year of my fashion blogger life. Hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane!

Original Post: Studious

Original Post: Mint and Chevron

Original Post: Tee shirt and jeans

Original Post: Travel outfit

I hope you enjoyed these remakes of some Carylee classics! It's been such a fun year and I'm thankful for all my readers, new and old - some of you have been reading regularly and commenting almost daily for months now - to name a few: Rachel, Lee, ImogenIvonne. I'm excited to have found new friends through our Monday Link-up and look forward to cultivating those relationships in the future! And of course, my partner in crime, On the Daily Express, who keeps me sane in Blogland and provides constant encouragement and help! Pretty sure we'd be trouble if we lived in the same city! I gave the husband a shout out at the end of 2013, but my gratitude for getting sucked into my hobby by taking my photos could not be expressed enough.

Of course, I can't close without the shout out to my photographer of the day! To check out more of Ryan's work, please visit his website at http://www.rmcphotographs.com

THANK YOU!
