My foolproof top

Sunnies: Tom Ford | Earrings: Forever 21 (option) | Bag: Kate Spade (option)  | Top: JCrew Factory | Bracelet: Target (option) | Skirt: Tinley Road only $29.99! | Shoes: Franco Sarto (option, option)

I received a coupon from Piperlime last week so I decided to go hunting on their website for some goodies. They paired this skirt with so many different tops - I kind of fell in love with it. When I finally found the skirt itself and saw that it was only $29.99 before my coupon, it was a no brainer.

Of course when it came down to styling it, I was at a loss. I tried a couple of my portofinos in an effort to pattern mix, but I wasn't feeling it. I didn't want to lean towards a plain white top because I felt like it was too spring/summer. I almost reached for my chambray, but felt that was too easy. That's when I finally just reached for my foolproof top.

I think I've only worn this top once on the blog here. And that's probably because I always, always, always reach for this top when I'm traveling. It's like a tee shirt, but better, and the jewel neckline is amazing because I don't have to travel with a necklace! It's perfect as a bottom layer, or simply on its own. Today's outfit was the first time I actually tucked it into a skirt, and it didn't fail me again - very happy with how this came out. And I highly suggest that you add this top to your wardrobe. Like right now, seriously. I actually didn't realize that this top was back until I was creating this post. So, I just ordered it in a second color. Figured as much as I wear this one, may as well give myself more options!

Pretty. And hot!

Sunnies: Oakley | Necklace: Honestly can't remember?? My guess is Express | Bag: Chanel (budget option) | Top: Express (option, option)  | Bracelet: Express | Skirt: Tinley Road (option, option, option)  | Shoes: Tahari (option, option, swoon)

Pretty. That's the one word I would use to describe the outfit. The cut and print of the skirt and the ruffle detail in these heels make this outfit simply pretty to me. I should have gotten a back view of this top because it's got a bit of a ballet back and dips lower than the front, which just adds to the pretty factor.

The last time you saw this skirt was way back here. (I know you miss staring at my front door, huh.) I'm digging the styling today better. Even though I'm still somewhat monochromatic, I swear nothing beats a crisp wide stripe.

I hate talking about the weather because I feel like it's the one topic that you talk about when you don't have anything else to talk about, but let me just tell you - it was FREAKING HOT while taking the photos this weekend. I only had 3 outfits to photograph on Sunday, and I tried my best not to make sudden movements lest I start sweating profusely in my photos. I had to tell you this because you'd never know that it was sheer torture standing here smiling for the camera. 105 degree heat index certainly made me question my life choice for taking photos. I told the husband that we should do the ice bucket challenge again after my pics were done - even though we both did ours last week. That's how freaking hot it was!!!

Genes and jeans

Top: Tinley Road (last seen here) (option, other mint top options here and here) | Necklaces: Gifted, Francesca's (option) | Belt: Nordstrom (option) | Bag: Prada (gifted) | Jeans: Express | Shoes: Kate Spade (similar)

I don't ever get too terribly personal on the blog, but decided to do so today. Basically - my sister is pregnant! She's older than me and this will be the first grandchild in our family. Needless to say, my parents are ridiculously excited - the whole family is, and I just about cry every time I think about it! So, to celebrate my family today, I decided to wear this bag that my sister got me a couple of birthdays ago. I love it because, well, it's a Prada, so duh, but also because of the color and I have nothing else like it! Equally as unique is my gold necklace that my mom gave me for my birthday last year. It paired perfectly with the other gold and yellow accents in my outfit, and felt only appropriate to wear since I knew I'd be making this a "family" related post anyway!

What's funny is I felt EXTREMELY matchy matchy today. I thought maybe I had gone too far, but when I walked out of my closet room, the husband says, "Awwww, I like that!" He said I never get matchy like this, so the change was nice. And that was validation enough to not make a wardrobe change.

Left and middle: Original post here | Right: Original post here
I'm 5'-2" wearing the short inseam.

On the Daily Express: Original post here
Gina is 5'-4" wearing the regular inseam.

Before I go - can we talk about these Stella destroyed jean leggings for a second? I've been obsessed with distressed jeans lately, but of the three pairs I own, these are my favorite. I can't take credit for these because Gina over at On the Daily Express convinced me that I needed them. The second I received them, I was sure to text her a pic of me trying them on - she ended up incorporating that picture in her post on Express favorites here. They really do feel like butter - soft and worn in, but still substantial enough to smooth out all your problem areas. I always size up in any of the Stella jean leggings for the best, most comfortable fit. I also love that they come in short length - since my barely 5'-2" self hates getting things hemmed! It's awesome seeing them on us next to each other because we have different body types, but they're equally flattering regardless! Right now they are buy 1 get 1 for $29.50. Or you can use promo code 1108 for $30 off your $75 purchase (or $60 off your $150 purchase, or $15 off your $30 purchase.) If you get them, please come back and share your own reviews! Definitely a holy grail item in my closet room!

Manic Monday: Pink lips, tweed vest, and moto boots

Earrings: Express | Vest: Tinley Road (Piperlime) | Top: Express | Necklace: Kate Spade (option) | Bracelet: Express (option) | Leggings: Zella | Boots: Frye (40% off but limited sizes) (Also available here) | Gloss: MAC "Girl About Town"

Mix it Monday: See how else I styled this necklace.

Happy Monday! Although if you're a Broncos fan, perhaps you are still in mourning. I'm not even joking when I say I cried in the middle of the last World Series game when I realized the Cardinals were not going to win. So, I feel for you, Denver! And congrats to you Seahawks fans! They were talking on the radio about how they need to align Super Bowl with President's Day or another holiday so that everyone has the following Monday off! That's a fabulous idea, no?

I had been wanting motorboats* for awhile now, but I really didn't want a pair that had a lug sole, which are harder to find. When I saw these, I thought they were perfect. They're honestly not too different than a low profile riding boot, except for the shaft height and buckle details. I almost paid full price for them at Nordstrom and then ended up finding them 40% off on Urban Outfitters' site after a little digging.

I thought this vest would be perfect with the boots! The vest was an impulse buy through Piperlime - it was on clearance for $29 and some change. Unfortunately, it's sold out now, and I can't find anything remotely similar for you. Hate when that happens! Especially when I love this one so much. I also love that these Portofino shirts have a longer hem in the back than in the front so my booty is totally covered in leggings - one of the benefits to being a shorty!

This MAC "Girl About Town" is seriously the most perfect pink lip color. It pairs great with my skin tone, and a little goes a long way - I definitely could have applied it with a heavier hand. I've only just recently gotten into colored glosses. I used to just rely on Carmex and a clear gloss. For years! But I love how even just the smallest amount of color on your lips can brighten up your whole face!

*Clearly this should have said "MOTO BOOTS" but I had to leave that auto-correct in there because it made me legit LOL. You all know what a motorboat is, right? ;)
