Bathroom remodel: Complete!

If you need a refresher, you can look back at this post hereI didn't exactly expect the remodel to take this long! It sat dormant for quite some time though. For the most part, it's been done since February. The thing that set me back was the need for a backsplash. These are the problems you encounter when you decide to create your own makeshift vanity! It will all make sense when you see the photos! Let's just get started because this will be photo heavy!

The room just feels so much bigger without the corner shower unit! I have a ton of storage, and it amazes me that I even use everything that I have. I'm not quite sure how one person can fill up an entire bathroom with products. I don't even consider myself a product junkie, but apparently I'm a hoarder of some sort because I just have a lot of stuff!!

Reclaimed wood for backsplash and blocking: The Old Wood Co.

Here is what I was talking about. Since the vanity is really a kitchen cart on wheels, we had to somehow anchor the cart to the wall so it wouldn't move. (Moving vanities are not good with water pipes!) But we also needed the cart to be offset from the wall to allow for enough clearance between the taller faucet and the mirror. We figured we could hold the vanity off the wall with a backsplash. The problem was finding some older looking wood that blended well with the wood in the vanity. I needed a 5-feet piece. Only 46" of this would be for the backsplash, and then we would use the remaining piece, cut in half, for wood blocking on each end of the middle shelf as seen above so we could hold the vanity in place. Basically, the backsplash is nailed to the wall. Then the vanity is friction fit up against the backsplash, but it is held in place by these two anchors on each end of the middle shelf.

Oh, and I failed to mention that the backsplash ended up taking 4 weeks to order, so by the time it arrived, the father in law was already knee deep in their own remodel projects at their house. So, the bathroom sat untouched until the husband and I finally had a free weekend to finish it off.

Full length mirror: Lowes

I am so happy I actually have room for a full length mirror in here. It's helpful when I need to look THISCLOSE in a mirror because I don't have to lean over the vanity, I can simply walk up to this mirror! Unfortunately, the lighting is not ideal for Instagram-worthy outfit selfies. *That* would have been amazing.

Hanger metal art: Here Today

IKEA Hanging rod and ceramic storage pots | IKEA Basket with handle | Craft storage unit used as nail polish display: Michael's

I doubled the storage of my nail polish cabinet by cutting strips of styrofoam that I use as a little "step" for each shelf. Now I can store polishes two rows per each shelf and still be able to see both rows since the back row is elevated with the styrofoam. Now I have so much extra space, I feel like I need more polish!

Toilet paper dispenser and holder: Gingham Buffalo | Floor tile (used with a grey grout)

These Edison bulbs are so fun and retro, but they are very yellow. It doesn't bother me at all when I'm getting ready, but it's definitely not optimal lighting for selfies. #fashionbloggerproblems

After we had everything in place, I realized that I was missing two pretty important things - a toilet paper dispenser and a towel holder. I was able to find both at a local store called Gingham Buffalo. This ladder is really just supposed to stand on a floor and lean against the wall. But I decided to hang it on the wall with robe hooks, and pin the bottom rung with nails at the corners so the bottom stays attached to the wall. The robe hooks at the top protrude enough to give clearance between the ladder and the wall to hang towels on each rung.

I guess you can say I love it!!! It's such a great space. I love spaces that make me feel good every time I walk inside them. This is definitely one of those spaces. I'm so happy and relieved that it is done!! Thanks for hanging in there and peeping out the reveal photos!

  2. Loving all of your cool storage containers and the close-up look at your nail polish collection! I feel the same way about all of my bathroom stuff. Why is there so much? I can't be that high maintenance, can I? What impresses me most is that you manage to fit your bathroom essentials into a carry on!! Great job on the re-model!

  5. We are hoping to remodel our bathroom this year. Although we don't have a corner shower space to fill, my bathroom will have that same exact corner TO fill because the vanity we will be putting in is going to be shorter than the one that is there which goes all the way to the wall. I was trying to figure out what I could do with that empty space and I LOVE what you did! I just may "steal" that idea. :-)

    Thanks so much for sharing!
