My home office makeover

A little over a month ago, I shared in this post that I left my job of 13 years and started a new job that allows me to work from home. We had a home office already, but it was pretty haphazard in terms of furniture and decor. It turned into a quasi storage space with a desk in it, and of course my infamous mirror I use for my outfit selfies. Since I'd be spending so much time in this room now, I really wanted to make it a space that I loved, a space that made me feel good, and a space that was more intentional. It took a few weeks of buying things here and there and painting, but it is officially done! I couldn't not share the transformation. Let's get started!

Bathroom remodel: Complete!

If you need a refresher, you can look back at this post hereI didn't exactly expect the remodel to take this long! It sat dormant for quite some time though. For the most part, it's been done since February. The thing that set me back was the need for a backsplash. These are the problems you encounter when you decide to create your own makeshift vanity! It will all make sense when you see the photos! Let's just get started because this will be photo heavy!

Bathroom remodel

Existing photo of my bathroom
(that pocket door leads to a walk-in closet which connects to my closet room)
(Yes, my closet room has a closet)

We had so many projects going on the week between Christmas and the New Year. We ordered a new recliner for the living room. We had new carpet installed in the basement living room. We were supposed to have the carpet removed in the sunroom and replaced with tile, but when the carpet was pulled up, the installers found like-new tile underneath! (The same tile pictured in the bathroom photo above, actually.) So, we just needed the old carpet discarded and all the glue from the tack strips removed from the perimeter tile. (Luckily we were able to return all the new tile we had bought.) On top of all this, for Christmas, my father in law is volunteering his own labor to remodel my bathroom.

Closet Room: The Photo Session

See full outfit here: Top: Express | Bracelet: JCrew (option) | Bottoms: American Eagle (option)

I'll keep the text super short since this will be really photo heavy, but I mentioned last week in my post that I had my closet room professionally photographed! I got the photos late last week, and I could not be more pleased with them! I used Christine Foehrkolb Photography, a local photographer who literally lives about 5 minutes from my house. And! She's good friends with Carrie and Stacy from CS Gems, so it's nice to keep it all in the family, so to speak! Christine took a ton of amazing photos for me to choose from. It was so hard to narrow it down for this post! I hope you'll grab your coffee and enjoy this ride with me!

Christian Louboutin (gifted) and Kate Spade coffee table books

Chair and Ottoman: Value City | Side table and lamp: Target | Rug: Amazon | Chandelier: Kohl's (similar) | Bookshelves: Ikea (half height bookcase, full height book case, doors (option) | Curtains: Target (similar) | Armoire: JCPenny (option) | Hanging jewelry organizer: Bed Bath and Beyond (similar) | Step stool: Amazon (similar)

I wasn't sure if she was going to have me pose inside my room, but I made sure I was dressed for it, just in case! I'm glad that she did, because of all the photos and such that I have of my room, I really didn't have any great ones of me in the space. What a great record of my happy place! Thanks for sticking with me on this!

The Closet Room Tour

Chair and Ottoman: Value City | Side table and lamp: Target | Rug: Amazon | Chandelier: Kohl's (similar) | Bookshelves: Ikea (half height bookcase, full height book case, doors (option) | Curtains: Target (similar) | Armoire: JCPenny (option) | Hanging jewelry organizer: Bed Bath and Beyond (similar) | Step stool: Amazon (similar)

Hey guys! I'm still recovering from my weekend in Denver, but I wanted to make sure I kept you busy in my absence! The weekend before I left, I found some strength to do a big overhaul in the closet room. And I mean BIG. 11 bags of purging big! 8 hours of work big! So don't let the above photo fool you because it wasn't all unicorns and rainbows.

I have gotten several requests for a tour of the closet room, but I have been procrastinating because I knew it was long overdue for a good purge, and I also wanted to better organize some stuff because my bags were kind of all over the place, and things were just a bit chaotic because of the fact that I needed a good purge.

So! Now that that's taken care of, I did not hesitate to do a little video for you because it will probably be another 3-5 years before another great purge! I linked to some of the pieces you see in this video up above, or at least similar items if I could still find them. Hope you enjoy! Oh and you're not allowed to watch the video unless you agree to still love me unconditionally and not judge me for being a hoarder. Please and thank you.

The one pet peeve is that I wish I would have gone with the black velvet hangers. I chose off white at first - I ordered a ton through The Container Store, but the price adds up quickly! I managed to find some for a fraction of the price at places like Ross, Marshall's, and TJ Maxx, but the problem is - they're a hodge podge of brands so the shades of beige aren't quite the same. I think it would have been less noticeable had I done all black, but I was already about 100 hangers into it before I made this realization. Oh well! Live and learn!

One of these days, I will have it professionally done with proper wall units and such, but for now, it's still a great place that I love, and I've worked with what I've got! Hope you enjoyed it!

And one more treat for you before I leave you to your Monday! I've teamed up with some other bloggers to bring you this Rebecca Minkoff Mini MAC Giveaway! Simply enter using the Rafflecopter below. Good luck!
