We spent 6 nights and 7 days at the Orange Lake Resort in Orlando last week. It was perfect. We take plenty of long weekend trips here and there, but it's been a couple of years since we've actually unplugged for a whole week and enjoyed a legit vacation. We really had nothing planned other than laying around the pool. Throw in a day at a theme park and a couple of nice dinners, and we were set. We are super low maintenance when it comes to vacations. Our first priority is to relax.

Orange Lake Resort Orlando

We picked this resort because it is affiliated with our timeshare through Holiday Inn Vacations. The term "timeshare" used to denote scary thoughts within me. I know in Mexico, as soon as you land, you don't talk to ANYone until you get on your shuttle to your resort because they're bound to trick you into sitting through a timeshare presentation. But, as I've started to learn a bit more about timeshares, it's not so scary anymore. I'll go into that more tomorrow. For now, I just wanted to share a few snippets of the property.

It was HUGE. Seriously HUGE. We had a rental car, so we just drove from our building to other parts of the property. We spent the majority of our time over on River Island. There were restaurants, shops, and the fitness center there on top of the lazy river that meandered around the "island." We set up shop in a little area across from this waterfall, which was perfect because there were plenty of palm trees around to provide shade when we needed a break from the sun.

It's too bad that we aren't golfers because the weather was perfect for golf and the property was basically geared towards golfers. Sadly, we ended up not doing putt-putt, though we had every intention of going to play! They had that on the resort as well, and that's the only kind of golf the husband and I do! There were pools scattered everywhere, but River Island was my favorite, mainly because there were so many little nooks and crannies so you could escape from the crowds. Though, to be honest, the crowds really were not bad at all on this trip! There was also a place to rent jet skis and do water sports, but we never ventured out that way. Maybe next time!

It's really funny because I love the beach. I love the sound of the ocean. Nothing is more calming to me than listening to the sound of waves crashing. (It's my white noise of choice on my phone app!) But, even when I'm by the beach, I always prefer to hang out in the pool. It's mainly all about the sand and I hate having it everywhere. As long as I'm staying dry - I can sit on the beach, no problem. But when I need to take a dip in the water to cool off, I very much prefer a good ole pool.

I actually read a book on this trip and it was so nice! I used to read all the time. And then I started blogging and that basically took up all of my free time. I miss reading though, and I hope I can keep it up even though vacation is long gone. I'm definitely feeling relaxed and recharged! But I'm wondering when I can count down to the next trip again!

  3. So glad you guys had a great time on your vacation! I know what you mean about timeshares having a certain reputation. But we do have a couple of friends that have them (and stay at a resort here in San Diego) and it really is a great fit for them. Can't wait to read more about your experience tomorrow.
