Trendy

JCrew Factory chambray
Express skirt
Rebecca Minkoff sandals
TOMS sunnies

A couple of things about me:

1. I cringe when I hear people asking if something is "in" or "out." My theory is - if you like it, if it fits you well, then rock it! Who cares what everyone else is wearing?
2. I get a bit offended if someone calls me "trendy." To me trendy means that I am a follower. That I dress based on what the latest craze is. But, my real opinion on trends is that not everything is for me. Yes, there are definitely trendy pieces that I like, but I like them because I like them. I don't like them because I feel I have to since the majority does. Hence why I do not own a pair of Uggs. Regardless of how many people have them and love them, I just personally don't like them for me and could not see myself ever owning a pair.

So, I say this because of this skirt. The hi-lo hem is definitely a thing right now. I'm not really a fan of the short in the front, long in the back hems, but the sheer overlay and short skirt combo turned me on a bit and I decided to try it. I kept seeing images of other people who did this well. These are all a bit more cold weather looks, but you can see how these peaked my interest.

I came across the mint one from Express and decided to give it a try. Truthfully, I pictured myself wearing it on a beach in Mexico. The inner skirt is a bit too short to wear to work, so this is definitely an off day or vacation day look. My complaint about this skirt is that you cannot tuck anything into it because it leaves you looking lumpy (the skirt is not forgiving in hiding anything under it.) That made it a challenge to pair a top with it, which is why I ended up with this knotted chambray. Unfortunately, not the most original of pairings, but I was happy to give this skirt some air time. I'd say this is probably the trendiest thing I have in my closet room right now.

  2. i have wanted a sheer-long-over-mini skirt with the slit in the front since the mid-90s. i blame Friends: rachel's skirt, which appears around 2:30-2:40.
