Why I love Bailey 44 dresses

Bailey 44 column dress

To say I am obsessed with Bailey 44 dresses is an understatement. You have seen them time and time again on the blog - whether it's just for the office or for a special occasion. It's a brand I lean on quite frequently. I love the way their made-in-the USA pieces fit me and I know I will look just as fresh after wearing them all day as I did when I left the house in the morning.

Friday Favorites

It's Friday, PLUS it's the Friday connected to a long weekend! It seems like it's been forever since we've had a holiday! Probably because my last holiday was New Year's Day! Time flies, but I have to say I welcome the longer break! The husband and I are headed on a road trip this weekend. We decided last minute to tackle the bourbon trail! You can follow along on Snapchat (carylee07) or on Instagram stories (morepiecesofme) - I'm sure it will be fun and I can't wait!! Before I go, I wanted to share some of my favorites lately along with some things I've had my eye on for summer!

Just Porter: professional computer backpack

Just Porter Hazen Professional Computer Backpack

As you guys know, I just started my new journey to become Pilates certified. It is no joke like going back to college! Curriculum, lectures, internship logs, and of course text books. I made a joke on Snapchat when my books arrived that I wondered if I should go out and buy myself a new Jansport. (I used to ROCK my red one back in the day!) Well, the very next morning, I got an email from Just Porter asking if they could send me a backpack in exchange for an honest review. Is this Big Brother watching me, or is this just a happy coincidence? I will go with the latter! I had never heard of the brand before, so the first thing I did was check out their products, read their reviews, and then google videos.

Random roundup: My favorite dresses

Sorry to tease you with a random roundup in the middle of the week! It's not Friday, it's only Wednesday, so you still have two more days to endure! Hopefully the short week is going quickly for you regardless! For today's post, I wanted to touch on the topic of dresses! I used to wear dresses ALL. THE. TIME. All the time. That was before blogging. Dresses are so self sufficient. If you've followed my blog for awhile, you know I love my layers, I love adding interest, I love making outfits and pieces my own. It's harder to do that with a dress unless you're able to throw on the layers for winter, so I think I inadvertently avoided buying a ton of dresses because I found it more interesting to style other pieces instead. Don't get me wrong. I still love me a good dress! Especially in the middle of summer when it's so hot you don't even want your own skin to touch other parts of your own body! (Picture me walking like a starfish. Sometimes you do what you gotta do when you're incredibly hot!!!)

The romper trilogy + new espadrilles

Gap scoop back romper
--- Left: Original post here | Right: Original post here ---

Another case of "blogging makes me shop!" As you can see, I have this romper in grey and black already. Each time I write a new blog post or put together something for Instagram mentioning it, I go back to Gap's site to see if it's still available and/or if they have released additional sizes in the other colors. I had been wanting this teal one for awhile now, but they never had my size! Lucky for me, that changed last week and I was able to score it. This really is the perfect thing to throw on when it is blazing hot outside!!

Kendra Scott Summer 2016 Collection

Well, 12 weeks have already passed and a new Kendra Scott collection has launched! It certainly doesn't seem that long since the last collection was released, especially since there are still things that I have on my wish list for spring! But, like clockwork, the Summer 2016 pieces are out, and they definitely do not disappoint. This collection was inspired by a trip Kendra Scott took to the French Riviera. You can see the entire Kendra Scott Summer 2016 collection for yourself online, but I snapped a few photos of some of my favorites! Let's get started!

Grace and Lace Leg Warmers

grace and lace miss molly leg warmer
Top: Express (current colors here) | Leggings: bp | Legwarmers: Grace and Lace

When Jenna told us the theme for the day's photo shoot, she also sent us a Pinterest board with inspiration photos to set the mood. I wasn't sure if we would be taking any photos inside, but I went ahead and brought a lounging outfit just in case; something that I would totally wear if I were spending a weekend in a log cabin. I don't think I have ever been barefoot on the blog before. Nor do I think I have ever been able to get a good photo of these adorable leg warmers.

Pinrose fragrance collab with Sephora

Pinrose Gilded Fox and Wild Child: Available only at Sephora
Parum a-go-go: Available in stores starting April 15th

I am very much a scent oriented person. The husband jokes that I have a sniffer like a dog - I'm super sensitive to smell, which can be both a good and a bad thing depending on the scent! Perfume is one area in my beauty routine in which I lack, and the main reason why is because many perfumes trigger migraines with me, so I typically stick to mild lotions and body splashes. It makes me sad because I would love to expand my perfume collection. So, when Pinrose reached out to me to try their new fragrance collaboration with Sephora, I was really excited for the opportunity!

Fabletics Review

A couple of weekends ago, the husband and I went to lunch straight from the gym. We ended up in the same shopping center as an Old Navy, so I asked him if we could do some window shopping since I hadn't been inside an Old Navy for awhile. I ended up wandering around the athletic clothing section and had 2-3 things picked out. Everything was full price though, and I was having second thoughts about spending the money. The husband said, "You should try Fabletics." And I thought, "Hmm. I think I will!"

When you first go to their website, they will ask you to take a short little survey so they can get to know your workout habits a bit better. Basically trying to figure out if you're a runner, if you workout at the gym, or spend your time in a yoga studio. They also ask questions around your color and print preferences.

Once you complete the survey, you're then prompted to pick out your first outfit for $25. They select outfits based on your survey results, however, if you don't like any of their picks, you can simply select "view all outfits" to see what else they have to offer. I ended up going with the "Neroli" outfit. What's nice is that even though the outfit is modeled in all black, if it comes in other colors or prints, you have the option of selecting one of those instead. I could have also purchased more items above and beyond this outfit if I wanted to, but the $25 deal only applied to this one outfit as pictured.

Fabletics neroli outfit review

I ended up ordering both the top and bottoms in a size small and was really happy with the fit. The bottoms are called "joggers" and while they're not as super skin tight as my other workout leggings, they clearly aren't as loose as joggers typically are to me. It makes me wonder if they called them joggers because of the thick bottom hem, which can slip over your heel as I have them. LOVE that detail.

I am really happy with both the quality and the fit. Based on some video reviews I watched, I was afraid that the bottoms would be too small for me, but they worked out just fine. No muffin top action! I will continue to order smalls in the future. My current workout clothes are from Target, Old Navy, Express, and Gap. I do have a few pairs of Zella leggings as well. The quality is just as good, if not better than all of the above.

Fabletics neroli outfit review

So, how does this all work? Well, new styles are released on the 1st of every month. I simply log into my account on the 1st and see which outfits they've selected for me. Similar to how I picked out this first outfit, if I do not like any they've chosen, I can view "all outfits" and pick out something on my own. The difference is that each subsequent outfit is $49.95 instead of the initial $25 I paid for this first outfit. If I see nothing that I like, I can choose to "skip" that month and pay nothing. I have to take action (either buy something or choose to skip the month) by the 5th of the month. If I do nothing, then they will charge me $49.95, which ends up getting banked as store credit for future purchases. There's no contract and I can cancel at any time.

Fabletics neroli outfit review

I'm really excited about this subscription! Now that I'm working out 5-7 times a week, I definitely spend a lot of time in workout clothes. Having something cute to wear is motivation to get my butt to the gym or Pilates studio. Seriously. I'm really happy that February was such a short month, which means March 1st comes even faster and I can get more clothes!

I've never gotten sweaty for blog photos before - well, at least not from working out, the summer heat is another story.... And of course, I had to do the plank 8378237686 times because the husband couldn't get the lighting quite right. I personally think he was just trying to torture me! Oh, and by the way, this post is not at all sponsored by Fabletics, I tried this all on my own, though if Kate Hudson wants to be my BFF and send me free stuff, who am I to argue?

The Orly obsession

Orly top coat | Shop Orly polish here

I thought I would do something different today and put together a beauty post for you! This is what happens with it snows the day you are supposed to take outfit photos. But in all honesty, I've been meaning to do a proper post about this anyway, and there is no time like the present! Back in 2014, I made the New Year's resolution to paint my nails on the regular, and it's the one resolution I have completely aced! To this day, I am still fulfilling it! My most commonly used brand is Essie followed closely by OPI and then Chanel when I want to feel extra fancy. I recently discovered Orly, and it's my current obsession right now. I stumbled upon it randomly at Walgreens last November and I've been hooked ever since!

Flat Lay Favorites

Happiest of Fridays to you! Hope you have an exciting and/or romantic weekend planned with your loved one. All I know is that I have a lash fill tomorrow and I'm hoping to squeeze in my fave barbecue place, but otherwise, I guess I'll just wait and see what the weekend has in store for me! I thought I would leave you with some of my flat lay favorites. These particular flat lays were created for outfits I actually wore on the blog and took proper photos of, so I thought it would be fun to share the flat lay views of some outfits you've already seen. Flat lays are the most helpful for me when it comes to color and pattern pairing. Hope you get inspired!

Irresistible Me Hair Extensions

One of the things that I was surprised to learn in my blogging career is that many people wear hair extensions. Call me naive, but I had no idea. Yes, this shock is coming from someone who wears lash extensions. I've always been intrigued to try them and my curiosity has just continued growing, but I never have. When Irresistible Me approached me to receive a free set of hair extensions in exchange for an honest review on my blog, I was torn.

Kendra Scott launch event: Spring Collection 2016

"Kaplan" statement necklace

Last Wednesday, I had the pleasure of attending a launch event for the Kendra Scott spring collection. I always get really excited to go to these events because the Kendra Scott gals are always so much fun, and HELLO, so much eye candy in the form of jewelry! This collection certainly made me more excited for warmer temps and cooler colors!

The pullover sweater obsession

Sunnies: TOMS | Scarf: Charming Charlie | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff | Sweater: Gap | Tunic: Express (Grace and Lace option here) | Fleece lined leggings: The Fashion Lane | Boots: DV Dolce Vita (option)

Last week in between the holidays, the husband and I finally downloaded both Netflix and Hulu. We spent the bulk of New Year's Eve watching The Mindy Project. I bought one of her books, Why Not Me, to read on the long, direct flight to Orange County. I'm a handful of pages from finishing it, which is huge because I haven't read a book in its entirety since I started blogging three years ago. So sad, right? I've developed a bit of a girl crush on her, so I definitely wanted to start watching her show also. I'm only halfway through the first season but I'm hooked! Anyway, I tell you this because now the husband has me into this documentary on Netflix called "Making a Murderer" and I'm just not used to getting into anything on TV other than baseball. 2016 has changed me, y'all!

My Instagram hashtags

Instagram handle: carylee07

This is a little bit of a random post, but I've been wanting to touch on this for some time, but  wasn't really sure how to communicate it! With things getting a little crazy around here for December, I figured this was a nice easy, breezy post to help close out the week. So, what is this all about? Well, if you look at my Instagram account, at first glance, it appears to be a hodgepodge of randomness. I love the look of a consistent, organized feed, but I don't just want to provide one type of content because I like sharing my outfits in different formats. One night I decided to create my own hashtags for the main buckets of photo types I share most regularly. It makes the OCD part of me very happy to see each photo type mingle nice and happily with its peers. And today I wanted to share those hashtags with you!

What to buy for me

2015 holiday list

Yes, you read the title right. I've put together a wishlist so that all of you can shop for me! Ok, not really. But this is the time of year when everyone is asking for a list, and not only do I have to come up with what I want, I have to tailor them for different audiences so I don't end up with the same thing. (Seriously, one year, we ended up with THREE Keurigs!) As I was putting together the list for my the husband's family, I realized there are some tried and true products that I could ALWAYS use, and it really wouldn't matter if I ended up with duplicates. So, I'm sharing this list with you in hopes that it inspires some of your holiday shopping! And, if you *really* want to buy me stuff, I'll let you. :)

Responsible

Disclosure: I was invited by Whole Foods Market on a tour of the newly remodeled store in Brentwood, MO. I was provided a Pacha Soap bar and Mineral Fusion Nail Polish of my choice as body care samples to take home with me. All views expressed are my own.

Sunnies: TOMS | Necklace: Kendra Scott | Bag: Chloe (other colors here) | Top: H&M | Bracelet: Kendra ScottBottoms: LOFT | Booties: Rag and Bone

I know the bulk of what I post on this blog is light and airy. Nothing too in depth or serious. I keep it like that on purpose because when I started this blog, I had a pretty stressful and demanding job and blogging became my creative outlet, my breath of fresh air, my one opportunity to march to the beat of my own drum, my reminder that life doesn't have to be so super serious and stressful! As I'm approaching my three year blog-iversary, I'm seeing more and more that blogging does give me an inherent duty to be responsible in certain ways like supporting local businesses, showcasing the many things St. Louis has to offer,  and mindfully choosing brands that I'm proud to promote, not only for their products but for their ethics and philanthropy.
