Confessions

Sunnies: Vince Camuto | Necklace: Stella and Dot (budget option) | Bag: Michael Kors (option) | Top: Express | Bracelets: H&M (gifted) | Skirt: Bailey 44 | Sandals: American Eagle (option)

So, I've never been on the Birkenstock train. Ever. Not even a decade ago or so when they were initially trendy. They've just never appealed to me. But last week, I was perusing American Eagle's website and they had their shoes BOGO half off. I ended up buying a pair of leather flip flops and. These.

I was pretty excited to get them. Which made me feel all sorts of confused. Are my tastes changing? What's wrong with me? Granted, they aren't as chunky as the traditional Birks, but you can't say that these weren't inspired by them. Sigh. They're kind of the perfect better-than-a-flip-flop slip on sandal, and I was wearing them non stop over the weekend! But seriously. If I buy a pair of Crocs, please call the authorities.

  1. That maxi skirt is beautiful and unique. It creates such an Americana, patriotic outfit paired with that striped tank top. =)

  4. Hahaha I bought a pair of Birkenstock inspired sandals from Target even though I have NEVER been on the Birkenstock train either and feel the same way, uhhh what's happening here. Hahaha, but I also really like this version you scooped up. Also, no crocs. Ever. Don't make me call the fashion police!

  5. Girl I hear you! When trends come back around though, I find they are sometimes toned down...like your "Birks." No crocs please but I have to say they're the best summer shoes for kids!! Lol! :) XO

  6. Well for me, these don't quite read like Birkenstocks so you are safe. Your tastes haven't changed that much! But as you may recall I wore Birkenstocks in the 80s so maybe I just have a soft spot for them! I love this top paired with bright blue and can't wait to wear it like this with shorts in the summer!

    1. Haha!! Thanks!

I got this necklace from this local store called The Foundrie! You can get anything engraved on it! If I remember, it's only around $20? If you are interested, I can hook you up with the owner. I'm sure she can ship something to you if you're not local to St. Louis! She's really fabulous!

  12. hahaha!! Laughing at your crocs statement. Crocs are seriously the worst! I don't own any Birks yet but I have found a few pairs that I thought were really cute so it's probably only a matter of time. lol! I definitely think tastes change after a while because I look at some of the things I used to wear and wonder what I was thinking. LOL

  14. Birkenstocks are such a weird trend! I see people wearing the traditional thick two-strap horizontal ones and just cannot understand why they are considered popular. I like the thinner, more intricate straps on the ones you got--especially for just a fraction of the price! I hear the Birks are comfy which I can understand. The look of them though...not something I can get behind! haha
