Black Friday-week shopping

I've been slowly buying things throughout this week because I feel like the sales start earlier and earlier every year. But, I've been trying to focus on a specific list of "needs." I was semi successful sticking to these needs...

Why I love Bailey 44 dresses

Bailey 44 column dress

To say I am obsessed with Bailey 44 dresses is an understatement. You have seen them time and time again on the blog - whether it's just for the office or for a special occasion. It's a brand I lean on quite frequently. I love the way their made-in-the USA pieces fit me and I know I will look just as fresh after wearing them all day as I did when I left the house in the morning.

A new year

Happy New Year! It's hard to believe that the holidays have come and gone. I enjoyed slowing down these last couple of weeks, but it's also nice to get back into the swing of things at the same time! So yes, I do actually have a brand new outfit post for you today to officially kick off 2017!

On the border

Outfit details--- Sunnies: Ray Ban | Earrings: Charming Charlie (c/o) | Necklace: Kendra Scott (gifted) | Bag: Longchamp | Dress: Bailey 44 (try recreating the look with this tank and this skirt) | Bracelets: Stella and Dot Paperdolls Boutique, Nadri | Shoes: Sam Edelman ---

This dress is 3+ years old? It's been on the blog before and you can reminisce with old school posts here and super awkward here. It's one of my favorites which is why I didn't give it up even if it didn't fit me well over the last year or so. It's lightweight and perfect to pack, which is why I brought it with me this past weekend to Michigan. Just like I love when two pieces read as one, I love that this dress reads like two pieces - or at least raises questions about whether or not it's actually one piece or two.

Matching glitter

Bailey 44 ski bunny dress
Earrings: Forever 21 | Dress: Bailey 44 (other colors here) (option) | Bag: Kate Spade (gifted) (option, option) | Hand bracelet: Kendra ScottHeels: Kate Spade

Two dresses in one week, are you surprised? I ordered this dress through one of the Shopbop sales a few months ago because I had a bachelorette party to go to and they requested we wear all black so that the bride could stand out in her all white outfit. The party was this weekend, and thankfully, I'm nine pounds lighter than when I first received the dress, so it fit a lot more comfortably than it did originally! Yay for that!

Necklaces: CS Gems here and here (use code CARYLEE15 for 15% off) | Bag: Kate Spade (gifted) (budget option) | Vest: Express (option) | Dress: Bailey 44 (shop more Bailey 44 HERE) | Heels: SJP (other sizes and colors HERE)

Saturday was a such a fun day in blogging life! The gals at CS Gems arranged for the cutest photo shoot in the Central West End. The focus was around holiday style, New Year's Eve, and all the fun stuff in between. It was gorgeous and definitely got me just a little bit more into the holiday spirit! This was the first of three outfits I brought with me for the day. The Bailey 44 dress was one of my many Black Friday purchases, and I couldn't wait to slip this effortless piece on.

Random roundup

And it's still raining as I type this, no joke. But I won't complain about the weather since you all seem to enjoy my selfies anyway! <3 And somehow I am not sure how it is Friday already! We had two days of department meetings yesterday and now today and I am beat. Early mornings and late nights are immediately draining! Fingers crossed that this weekend is relaxing but dry and productive!

Let's begin, shall we?

Necklace: CS Gems | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff | Top: Bailey 44 (option) | Bottoms: Express (similar) | Shoes: Steven by Steve Madden

Now that I feel like I can't wear my destroyed jeans to work anymore, I feel like I *never* wore them. I busted them out finally this weekend, and it felt so good! Another thing that feels good is this Bailey 44 top. Fitted but forgiving - it's the best!

Vest: JCrew Factory | Dress: Piperlime | Necklace: Purple PeridotSandals: Report Signature

Oh, Piperlime, RIP. So sad. This dress was one of the last things I ever ordered from Piperlime, so it will always hold a special place in my heart. And I love this vest - it always gets so many compliments, and I really wish JCrew Factory would bring it back! It's the perfect layer over a dress like this when I want to have pockets!

Necklace: Express | Belt: Bebe | Top: JCrew FactoryBracelet: Purple PeridotSkirt: Francesca's | Shoes: BCBG

I completely plagiarized this outfit from my friend, Renata - you can see her version here. It's such a fabulous combo! I love finding new ways to wear existing pieces! And I love it when your friends basically dress you so you don't have to think!

Hat: Cardinals store | Tank: Victoria's SecretShorts: American Eagle | Shoes: Converse

Sneaking another game day outfit in here for you. I wore this to the Memorial Day game and the guy that took my ticket was very smitten with the fact that I strategically wore camo on Memorial Day. Haha! But yes, it was totally planned that way.

Jacket: JCrew Factory (similar) | Romper: Romeo and Juliet | Necklace: Express | Sandals: Christian Louboutin

This romper is one of those pieces that you really wish never went out of stock because everyone oohs and ahhs every time I wear it. And, I really can't blame them because it's pretty fabulous. That's why I had to buy it in the first place after seeing it on Rachelle back in the day here! I have Rachelle to thank for LOTS of things I buy, actually!

_______

Have a great weekend, everyone! I truly appreciate all of your comments and support!

Confessions

Sunnies: Vince Camuto | Necklace: Stella and Dot (budget option) | Bag: Michael Kors (option) | Top: Express | Bracelets: H&M (gifted) | Skirt: Bailey 44 | Sandals: American Eagle (option)

So, I've never been on the Birkenstock train. Ever. Not even a decade ago or so when they were initially trendy. They've just never appealed to me. But last week, I was perusing American Eagle's website and they had their shoes BOGO half off. I ended up buying a pair of leather flip flops and. These.
Via Instagram here

I was pretty excited to get them. Which made me feel all sorts of confused. Are my tastes changing? What's wrong with me? Granted, they aren't as chunky as the traditional Birks, but you can't say that these weren't inspired by them. Sigh. They're kind of the perfect better-than-a-flip-flop slip on sandal, and I was wearing them non stop over the weekend! But seriously. If I buy a pair of Crocs, please call the authorities.

The chunky cardigan

Sunnies: Vince Camuto (option) | Necklace: Kate Spade (option, shorter option)  | Bag: Tory Burch (option) | Cardigan: H&M (option, option)  | Dress: Bailey 44 (option, option)   | Boots: Naturalizer (option)

I had a heck of a time finding the perfect chunky cardigan in this oatmeal color. For whatever reason, I felt like everything out there wasn't quite chunky enough. This one may even been TOO chunky - it's ridiculously warm, almost too hot to wear indoors. I loved the ease of pairing it with one of my trusty Bailey 44 dresses. I was just thinking that I could probably purge all of my dresses (which is triple digits, scary, I know), and only keep my Bailey 44 collection and still be quite content.

I'm off to Rochester today - sounds cold, huh? Well, I will leave you with one last reminder to enter the $225 Nordstrom giveaway! Only a few more hours left! Good luck!

Manic Monday: The best of 2014

Where the heck has 2014 gone? The last year has been such a whirlwind - it seems like it has just sped by, but at the same time, so much has happened along the way: Jamaica, I have a God daughter, "the" walk, I met Gina in person and am also becoming great friends with Jennamy nephew was born, I won a blogger award plus all the other St. Louis Fashion Week festivities, and somehow I have managed to keep this little blog afloat for another year. I really enjoyed recapping 2013 for you at the end of last year, and was excited to do the same for 2014. I've tried to pick just one outfit favorite of mine for every month, so here you go!

JANUARY

I'm not sure if this outfit is a favorite, or if it's the shoes that make me love it so much. There's really not much to it, though I will say that 2014 was the year of blazers for me. I really tried to put more effort into buying and wearing blazers, and the color and subtle pattern of this one was perfect with the black and white background.

FEBRUARY

I've always loved this outfit probably because it has everything included with it that I love - stripes, metallics, color pop. And there's just something about blacked out tights and booties that always make mini skirts my favorite in the winter.

Original Post: "Icy Cool"

OK, so I cheated and picked two for February. But I figured that this second outfit is definitely more of a segue into spring vs the previous outfit that definitely screams winter more. I still adore this outfit - I love that every piece is old but since the combination was new to me, it felt like everything was just purchased and being worn for the first time.

MARCH
Original Post: "My Beau"

Another awesome combination. This light blue portofino is still one of my favorites to date, and it pairs so beautifully with my Beau bag. This gets me excited for spring all over again!

APRIL
Original Post: "Remixed to the max"

I'm not going to lie - sometimes I really impress myself! It was genius to pair this more casually styled vest over this top and skirt to make it read like a dress. The accessories make it look dressy, but not in an overdone way. The vest will always be a wardrobe staple of mine!

MAY
Original Post: "Manic Monday: This vest"

And speaking of the vest - here it is again, and it proves its versatility with this outfit. I love how utilitarian this outfit is, but then I add in the glitter pumps and bright pink bag to keep it fun and feminine!

JUNE

And here's example of how new outfit pairings made me feel like each piece was fresh from the store. Blogging and pulling inspiration from others are truly great ways to push the limits with your creativity and shop your own closet in ways you would never think of before. And it's so gratifying especially since there is no money being spent in the process!

JULY

Another case of pinspiration here. I would have never put this together in a million years, but I've always loved how this turned out. And I also forgot how much I loved those distressed shorts and suddenly miss them incredibly!

Original Post: "Manic Monday: Tea Party"

OK, so this is technically a second outfit in July, but I couldn't not include it because the dress is perfection. The open back is stunning and I need to wear this again stat!

AUGUST
Original Post: "Things I do in Bed"

Absolutely nothing special here - just a simple pullover top, skinnies, and the chunkiest of wedges. Maybe it's the fact that my hair cooperated that day, but I've not only always favored this outfit, but I've always liked these specific photos and how the depth of field turned out -- I really pop against the background. I was using my tripod and remote to take these photos, too!

SEPTEMBER

Ahhh, once September hits, the scuba leggings come out to play! I'll need to try this outfit again, but with my leopard Sam Edelman booties instead now that it's cooler!

OCTOBER

I not only love the way this outfit came out, but I especially love this photo. The husband was actually on his way to a meeting, but I made him take pics of me because I knew it would be too dark by the time the work day was over. I was trying to hurry, but then he saw these steps and asked if I wanted him to take some of me there. I naturally obliged, and I think he captured the outfit very well. I also love even more the way the mirrored version looks that I posted on IG here.

NOVEMBER
Original Post: "Less is more"

Funny story about this outfit. Grace and Lace shared this outfit on their Facebook page here. Well, later that week, a coworker came up to me. I work in an office of 500 or so people, so while we all may recognize faces, we don't always know each other's names, especially if our departments never interact with one another. Long story short - a  coworker who falls into the "I know your face but not your name" category, said that she follows Grace and Lace on FB, saw my photo and was so excited when she recognized me. That was my "celebrity" moment of the year.

DECEMBER
Original Post: "Layers"

I mean, you guys knew I was going to include at least one more vest outfit in this roundup! This outfit formula is certainly one of my favorites right now and I can't wait for more layering opportunities and MORE VESTS.

Original Post: "Sequin skirt remix"

I had to end with sequins. It is the holiday season after all! I love the way this clutch pulls the whole outfit together and that my feet disappear to let the sequin skirt really shine!

That's a wrap! I would love to hear if your favorites made the cut!! I do have a couple more posts to finish out the year, so I hope you'll check back again before the ball drops!

Random roundup

I've got another handful of random outfits that didn't formally make the blog. It's always nice to end the week with these! I honestly like seeing everything all together in one post just as much as you all seem to! You can see all my other random roundups here, and/or you can follow me on Instagram for real time updates. As always, I'm only linking to items that are still available.

Cardigan: Old Navy | Scarf: Marc Jacobs Target/NM Collabo | Tank: Bailey 44 | Leggings: Express | Booties: Cole Haan

This is the same outfit I posted here, just with a couple of tweaks. I felt like the scarf was a better accessory than the long necklace, and anytime I wear a thicker scarf like this, I prefer my hair up vs. down. And after I had seen the photos from the original post, I decided to just let the leggings extend past my heel (instead of folding them under) so there is less bunching at the top of my booties. These are the definite benefits of taking outfit photos ahead of time - being able to make adjustments.

Top: Dillard's junior section | Bottoms: Delia'sWedge Booties: Sam Edelman

The obligatory hotel outfit selfie. This was in Jersey a couple of weeks ago and I was able to meet my friend, Renata, for dinner. We ended up eating at Zinburger, which was my first time. It was pretty amazing and tasty, and  half price on bottles of wine doesn't hurt things either! As I was packing that morning, I had no idea what I felt like wearing for dinner. This top has been in my closet for about 3 years now, and I figured you can never fail with sequins and destroyed jeans!

Blazer: ExpressTop: Express | Dress: Express | Wedge Booties: Sam Edelman

This dress is great for work travel because it doesn't wrinkle and it's perfect for layering. If you'd like to go back in the More Pieces of Me time capsule, you can see it with a print scarf and cropped blazer here. When it comes to work travel - I definitely try not to reinvent the wheel if at all possible. There are certain foolproof pieces I know will always work like this dress.

Scarf: Zara | Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs | Top: BPJacket: Express | Bottoms: Delia's | Shoes: Express

And a blanket scarf is definitely foolproof, especially for travel. This was at 4:30am on my way to the airport. The light denim jacket plus this freakishly warm scarf were perfect to keep me warm outside, but still comfortable on the plane. This BP top was a great rec from Gina - so much so, that now I own two colors!

Necklace: Express | Jacket: Pulse | Plaid Top: Express | Top: BPBottoms: ExpressBooties: Vince Camuto

You guys. The Garth Brooks concert was amazing!! I wore this to see him, which ended up being pretty perfect for scream singing and dancing on my feet all night! I had originally looked for tickets when they first went on sale, but they were ridiculously expensive for not that great of seats. Two days before the concert, I decided to check again for giggles, and found seats two rows off the floor. That's how I've been able to score all my good seats - waiting until the last minute. The last time I saw him was in the late 90s, and he was just as amazing as I remembered! Definitely recommend seeing him if you can!

Vest: JCrewEarrings: Kate Spade | Necklace: Express | Bag: Tory Burch | Sweater: Old Navy | Top: ExpressBottoms: Express | Booties: Hinge

I woke up this morning feeling like wearing a sweater over a button up. I took inventory of all my sweaters and discovered this heart sweater from Old Navy. I honestly forgot I had this, and I think the last time I wore it was October 31, 2012. How the heck do I remember that? Oh, just my photo diary called Tumblr. I found this pic here. Glad the sweater is still relevant today, and it is definitely the perfect canvas for layering. And yes, a part of me is pretty geeked that something two years old still fits me!

Vest: JCrew Factory | Necklace: Express | Sweater: Gap | Top: ExpressLeggings: Pulse | Boots: Frye

Speaking of sweaters I forgot I had! I love this sweater, and here's another gem from my archives of me wearing it here. (BTW, if you click that link - I LOLd at my arm party. Holy whoa.) Anyway - I warned you guys that I had a vest obsession. I also warned you guys that I loved layers. This outfit is everything that I love about winter, down to my favorite Frye boots.
