Toronto: What I Wore

Last week, I recapped what I wore on my work trip to Providence and Boston, so I figured this week I would do the same for my Toronto trip I went on late last week. Packing for work trips is so hard for me. My struggles for this trip were: 1) I had never met anyone I was meeting, so I had no idea if they were casual or super dressy 2) I hate meeting new people wearing flat shoes, but I also knew I'd be doing a lot of walking so the shoes needed to be comfy. 3) The weather seemed to be cold, windy, and rainy. With that in mind, let's get started!

Jacket: Express | Top: Express | Scarf: Lulelemon (other options here) | Leggings: Zella | Shoes: Converse

My flight was first thing in the morning, but luckily, I wasn't meeting anyone until dinner, so it really didn't matter what I wore. So, I threw this outfit on the morning I left, and clearly, I went for 100% easy! It was unusually hot on the planes and in the airport, so this scarf and jacket quickly came off. Thank goodness for layers.

Vest: JCrew (cheaper version here) | Necklace: Express | Sweater: Banana Republic | Top: ExpressBottoms: Express (option) | Boots: Coach

When I got to the hotel, I had plenty of time to shower and properly get ready for dinner. I had mapped the restaurant, and it looked like it was in walking distance of the hotel, so I wanted to make sure I had manageable walking shoes but no suede since it could be raining. I didn't expect to meet anyone until I got to the restaurant, but one of my coworkers happened to be at the hotel also, so we walked there together since the rain had stopped, and it was only a 10 minute walk. The boots did well, but OMG I was SO HOT with these layers. This vest is deceivingly warm. I was dying by the time I got to the restaurant. I could have easily done without the sweater, but ah well. I went to the bathroom expecting to see myself as a sweaty mess but you couldn't tell I was sweaty so I just tried to relax and cool down. Though, I did take the vest off for dinner.

Trench: Ann Taylor (option) | Scarf: NordstromDress: Pulse (c/o) (option) | Fleece Lined tights: TargetBooties: Cole Haan

These booties are ridiculously comfortable, but for whatever reason, I wanted to be just a little bit dressier today, so I decided to wear them with a dress verses another pair of pants. Again, I wasn't sure how dressy these people would end up being, and I would rather err on the dressy side vs. the casual side. I feel like a sweater dress can easily lean either way in terms of the dressy factor. The trench vest was perfect for the extreme winds, and the scarf added a nice pop of color that I like.

I originally planned on wearing my minus the leather jacket as another layer between the dress and the trench, but since I basically spent the entire first day so sweaty, I decided to ditch it, and that was definitely a good life choice, because honestly, this sweater dress is pretty warm in and of itself. But, I do really love the way the jacket looks under this trench, so I had to share my "try-on" photos I took while I was still deciding what to wear.

And that's it! Three pairs of shoes for an overnight trip was probably a bit overkill, but I felt comfortable in each outfit, so it was worth it! Have I mentioned I'm looking forward to getting back to normalcy?

  5. I know you did a fabulous packing breakdown on snapchat but I still cannot get over how you fit all those layers into a carry on!! I am #checkingbagsforlife because I can't fit my stuff into a small bag. I'm also so glad for Snapchat now because it's SO fun to tag along on your trips and see what you see and where you go. IF ONLY you had Snapchat on Tyson Beckford day!!!! That would have been epic!!
