Long(ish) stripe cardigan

First of all, I apologize because I waited way too long to wear this cardigan and now it is sold out. So. Hopefully you saw when I originally posted about it and were able to snag it while it was still available!! I don't know about you, but sometimes you love things SO MUCH when you first get them. And yet they sit in your closet unworn. Why? Where does this change of heart come from?

Outfit details--- Sunnies: Ray Ban | Cardigan: CS Gems (option, option, option) | Cami: CS Gems (c/o) | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff "Moto Satchel" (smaller version here) | Purse poof: Grace and Lace (c/o) | Bottoms: American Eagle | Boots: Vince Camuto "Hollie" (option, option---

With this particular cardigan, I felt like I waited too long into the season to wear it. I really needed to wear it while you could still wear sweaters without jackets. Now that it's a bit cooler (even though it was mild on the day of these photographs), I feel silly wearing a jacket over it when the sweater is much, much longer than the jacket or coat. Oh, in case you didn't notice, I ended up cutting a good 6-8" off of this sweater.

I loooooved the idea of a long duster cardigan. I haven't owned one in quite some time and I loved the drama of the length. But then I started having second thoughts on the length. It looked amazing with faux leather leggings and heels - my legs look long in the photo on the left despite how all encompassing the sweater is. But I was having trouble thinking of other ways to wear it except for leggings and I didn't like that.

I felt like even my skinniest of jeans would be too bulky with it, booties with it would make my legs look stubby (especially from behind), and over the knee boots would compete with it too much. All that plus the fact that I couldn't wear it with a coat unless I minded the ends hanging longer than the coat made me hesitate wearing it for real life. So. I took a chance and decided to cut the length.

I know I will wear it so much more with this length vs. the longer length that I may only wear once a season or so. Every so often, I make tweaks to certain pieces of clothing like that which help make things even more versatile and wearable. Obviously you risk ruining the piece forever, but when the results are positive, it's worth it, especially knowing that it won't continue to collect dust in your closet!

We are officially one week away from Christmas!! We spent Thursday evening through Saturday evening celebrating numerous Christmas activities with the husband's family this weekend. It was fun but seriously exhausting! This week, I have a holiday lunch with my immediate department at the office and then our Pilates studio party is this week also. We will spend Christmas day with the husband's extended family, then we are off to Orlando for New Year's eve!

All that said, just a reminder that today will be the last linkup of 2017. Hello Monday will be back on Monday, January 8th! I do have a few more posts scheduled for the rest of December, so I hope you'll continue to check in! Have a great week!

  2. Oh that's a nice cardi - it's great you could alter it and shorten it to make it work for you! I have a long black striped duster and I never stopped to think about if it makes me look shorter - I'll pay attention next time I wear it, haha! :)
I have a rule that I have to wear things twice in the month I buy them, that ensure I'm buying things I want to wear right now and I'm bot keeping them unworn in my wardrobe to maybe get forgotten about. I think your case is different though, as you had to have the cardigan altered before you wore it :)

Thank you for the link up!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend! With just a week to go until Christmas I'm excited :) We had a relaxing weekend as all I have left to do is wait for two gifts to arrive in the mail now!

  4. This is such a great versatile sweater with so many possibilities. And I think I agree with you that the shorter length is much better suit to your petit frame. Wonderful outfit! I wish you a very wonderful Christmas and the happiest of New Years!

  6. I love long cardigans, but you are so right about the short window you can wear them because they don't work out well with jackets. I think it was a great idea to cut it, this new length suits your frame so much better.

  7. I'm impressed with your DIY "hemming" of that sweater! It turned out really well. I find the same thing...the really long cardigans just make me look short. Not my favorite! You've had a packed holiday season! Hope you get some down time in Orlando!

  12. You did a great job altering it! I'm the same way - I love the idea of a super long duster cardigan or coat, but because we are petite, I think it works better on taller ladies.
