Buying Lately

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a great weekend! Ours was pretty jam packed. We had a charity car show that the husband's car club was hosting, and we both worked the show. Our day started with the alarm going off at 4:45am and we didn't get home until 5pm that afternoon. I was beat and ended up retiring at 9pm!

Yesterday was more low key. I planned to take blog photos, but it's been raining every day for an eternity now, and the one day it's dry longer than half an hour is the day we work the car show. So. What does a fashion blogger do when they can't take outfit photos? They flat lay! I figured I'd put together another "buying lately" post for you since it's been a few weeks. Lately, my favorite thing to do on a shopping mail day is to style my new pieces in flat lay form. It's a fun way to show you everything I've bought lately before you actually see it on me! If you already follow me on Instagram, some of these may look familiar, but I made sure to throw in some new ones for today also!

I wil treat this like a random roundup post and only link to the newly bought pieces and/or anything that is still available. Cue The Black Eyed Peas, and let's get it started!

Sunnies: Gucci | Necklace: Express | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff | Dress: Madewell | Bracelet: Banana RepublicSandals: DV Dolce Vita

So, the dress and the bracelet are the new pieces in this outfit.

The dress: one of my shopping forum friends posted this dress in our Facebook group asking which color she should get, the black or white. I told her to get the ivory, so I could get the black version. :) I've been loving everything with a handmade vibe lately, which is why I fell in love. I did end up sizing down - I originally ordered a small, but after trying it on, I ordered an extra small for comparison. The XS worked better for me, and I am definitely not an extra small. So, size down!

The bracelet: I've been trying to up my bracelet and ring game lately because they're the two areas of my jewelry collection in which I'm lacking. Any time you can get an arm party look with only one piece, you can basically sign me up! You'll see that the one reviewer rated it low because it was too small, which is just a win for me and my small wrists! My wrist can sometimes look like a pencil in a trash can with some bracelets, so I liked that this one actually *fit* me.

Bag: Kate Spade | Top: JCrew FactoryNecklace: ILY Couture | Shorts: ExpressSandals: Jeffrey Campbell

It's almost officially summer, so my mind is on summer clothes. I've had my eye on these paisley shorts for some time, and when they dropped just under $20, I finally pulled the trigger. I ended up getting my true size, but I'm almost wishing I had sized up. I'm high waisted, so I tend to size up in my shorts so they hang lower on my waist and have a touch more of a relaxed fit. Regardless, I still love them, and they're keepers!

Tank: ExpressLeggings: Express

I love bright and obnoxious pieces when I work out, not going to lie. And since I've been trying to religiously work out lately, I'm always on the hunt to build my workout gear collection. These workout leggings were right up my alley. I sized up, but I normally like sizing up in my leggings. #helpswithmuffintoppage

And I've realized that in Pilates, muscle shirts are the best - they keep me cool but provide a nice and comfy barrier between my bare skin and the reformer. Otherwise there's either too much friction on my shoulder blades, or I'm all slippery from sweat. (TMI, sorry.) Old Navy has some muscle tees I really like, but this one from Express is even better because it's so crazy soft! I sized up for more of a loose fit.

Sunnies: Ray BanTop: ExpressBottoms: American EagleHeels: Louise et Cie

I mentioned buying this blush top back in this post here, but in order to give you a visual, I figured I'd go ahead and post the flat lay since I haven't worn it in real life yet -- not for any real reason except for the weather. Definitely size down in these shirts!

The sunnies are also new - I never thought Ray Bans would work for me because every time I tried them on, they never felt right on my face. The guy helping me was adamant that he could make adjustments to allow them to fit properly, and he was right! The hard part was deciding on the pink pair above or green, and I couldn't make up my mind, so I got both. But goodness, I haven't shut up about them to the husband. They make everything so crisp and clear, I'm obsessed!

Romper: American EagleBag: Kate Spade | Shoes: Vince Camuto (additional sizes here)

Remember that romper I posted about last year around Memorial Day? Well, when I saw this one pop up in American Eagle's Instagram feed, I decided I needed it. And when I saw it came in white, it was even more of a done deal. I don't even care if it is a bit on the PJ side, it's so soft and comfy, it NEEDED me as much as I needed it. I got my normal size, but if you're in between sizes, I would size down. It's definitely got a relaxed fit and is very forgiving.

And these espadrilles! Clearly, there is a flat espadrille trend right now, and I got bit with the bug. I tried on the Target version but they looked very wide and clumsy on me for some reason. So, I had it in my head that I needed a leather pair with a canvas captoe versus the other way around. I found this Vince Camuto version, but my size was never available. When I finally found a place that carried my size, I didn't hesitate. And they're just what I wanted - the leather is thin and soft and comfy. It fits like a second skin.

Bag: ExpressTop: JCrew Factory | Necklace: Purple PeridotShorts: ExpressWedges: Enzo Angiolino

Similar palette as the previous outfit, but a touch on the dressier side. Shorts and wedges are my favorite in the summer, and I've really been wanting a striped pair for awhile now. I'd been resisting these at Express, but it's hard to say no to a sale, amiright? I bought my normal Express size in these shorts.

Hat: Forever 21 | Camera: Nikon | Necklace: Stella and Dot | Jewelry Case: Amazon (option) | Passport Cover: Kate Spade | Scarf: Kate Spade | Ear buds: Skull Candy | Sunnies: Valentino | Flip Flops: American Eagle | Weekender bag: Lo and Sons (in Thistle)

I've realized that I needed a good weekender type bag for trips where a suitcase may be too much but my OG bag may not be enough. I've been really wanting this weekender from Lo and Sons because of how clever I think my OG is, but it's never been a high priority item.   It became a higher priority when it was 25% off though! I love it - so roomy and comfortable on my shoulder. I definitely recommend! And now I need a trip...

Necklace: CS Gems | Bag: Rebecca Minkoff | Dress: JCrew FactoryHeels: Saint Laurent

After I wore that dress to the wedding shower last weekend, I checked JCrew Factory's site to see if they had other colors. And they sure did! I've been so obsessed with anything navy lately, that this printed beauty made its way to my cart immediately. For me, this dress runs smaller than some of the other JCrew Factory stuff I own, so I went with a 6 instead of a 4.

Necklace: Purple Peridot | Tank: ExpressRings: Mindy Mae's Market, Nordstrom here, similar hereShorts: American EagleSandals: Sam Edelman

And last, but not least are one more pair of shorts and my new favorite tank.

The shorts: I live in American Eagle shorts in the summer and I realized I didn't have a coral color yet and needed to change that!

The tank: I talked about these tanks last week here. I ended up ordering a black and a white one because I really loved the way they fit. They really are a great alternative to a standard ribbed tank because of their easy fit. I ordered my normal Express size in these tanks.

The partial tuck doesn't work well with these because they're not quite long enough to stay tucked in for more than a second. So, I've been wearing them knotted like this just to give them a little extra shape. Someone asked me on Instagram how I tie it like this. It's definitely nothing new, but I figured I would share my secret just in case it helps someone else! I just use one of those teeny, clear, elastic hair ties!

Thanks for sticking with me on this photo heavy post! I thought there was a little something for everyone in this post - the athlete, the traveler, the casual, the dressy. Hope you found a little shopping inspiration! Have a great week!

  5. Hello, can I have one of each? Seriously, I love all of these outfits! I'm eyeing that Madewell dress and that American Eagle romper is so cute! I always wondered how bloggers take pictures with an all-white background. Do you have a background like that at home or do you Photoshop?

    1. Haha! Yes- I would totally share closets with you!

And it's a combination of a white board and photo editing - I use Aviary to brighten and adjust color saturation. I have a 36x48 trifold presentation board that I got from Michael's. I place it on the floor next to the window in our office. Natural light is key, and sometimes if the conditions are just right, I don't have to make any photo edits at all! The office faces west, and I've found the most optimal time to do it is late morning/around noon when it is bright but the sun is not shining directly into the room.

Jenna did a great post about it here:
