It's Friday!!! We all made it! I don't know about you, but I had to start Friday happy hour early (last night) to take the edge off. It's been quite a week, but I'm thrilled to kick off the weekend! Let's just jump right in! You know the drill!

As relaxed as it gets

Easy fitting pants, soft sweatshirt, cozy scarf, and suede boots? Yes, yes, yes, and yes. This is just about as relaxed and casual as you will see me on the blog, and I've got to say, it really does feel good to wear elastic waisted pants once in awhile, right?
A shopping forum friend found a dupe of this infamous Lululemon Vinyasa scarf at…wait for it… Whole Foods. Or you can order one online direct from the retailer here. I somehow managed to collect 3 vinyasa scarves last year, so I'm pretty maxed out, but it looks like a great budget option! Oh how I love having shopping spies.

What I Wore: Packing Remix
Last week was a crazy week! Basically had to prepare for meetings all week, and while I wasn't preparing for these meetings, I was physically in them! Friday was spent trying to get ahead as much as I could knowing I would be away from the office for a few days. We had a baseball game to go to that evening - our last regular season game!! - and that was also the iPhone 6 release date, so I was trying to get my phone all set up after work but before the game because I knew I would spend the night after the game still trying to pack!
I had everything backed up and restored onto my new phone, but it was still saying I didn't have service. We went through the same steps we did for the last 7 phones or so, so we were really confused about what was going on. The husband called AT&T on his cell (his new phone hasn't shipped yet, so nothing was changed with his phone at this time). He was on the phone with the rep for about 15 minutes - she had asked for my SIM card number, he gave it to her, then silence. He lost service on his phone. By this time, we were already en route and late to the game, so both of us had no cell service for about 4 hours.
Oh the horror. We actually had to talk! To each other!
I kid.
Sort of.
Not because we had to talk - but man, there are so many things I do with my phone - check the weather, check my calendar, watch baseball replays! - things I do without really thinking, but I realize I do once I don't have a phone on me.
We get home around 11 after the game, where I had left my old phone, and found that it still had service. So I called AT&T again, explained the situation. After about a half hour with that rep, we found out that the first rep assigned the wrong SIM number to the wrong phone (we have a shared account.) So after all was said and done - I had to put my NEW SIM in his old phone. He had to put his SIM in my OLD phone and I had to put my OLD SIM in my NEW phone. Yeah, that hurts my head, too.
All the first AT&T rep had to tell us was that I just had to switch SIM cards with my two phones. Done. Easy as that. Not sure why we didn't have to do this the other times, but whatever. Why am I telling you all this? Well, the point is - a 2 second task turned into a 6 hour debacle on top of an already crazy week, so by the time I was able to sit down and pack, I was spent.
I trusted my remixing skills, started grabbing stuff and laying it out on the floor to make sure that the pieces I was picking could create multiple outfits. Somehow, in the midst of this chaos, I only managed to bring one pair of shoes, but in hindsight, it worked out because the booties ended up pairing well with everything anyway! Gone are the days when I'm trying to wear something different everyday when I travel, and when I pack so much I have to check a bag! I took proper photos of some of the outfits I actually wore from the group above (here and here), but for those of you that prefer the good old selfie - here you go!

Other than my jeans, I never ended up having to re-wear any clothes. Oh, well, except for my booties. Perhaps I should have named this post "What to wear with black booties" instead! I never ended up needing the denim jacket, as it was definitely too warm, but it's always nice to have something like that just in case. I always enjoy reading packing posts like this, so I hope you enjoyed it as well!
Now wish me luck because the St. Louis Fashion Blog awards are tonight and I'm pretty freaking nervous!!!!!!

Manic Monday: Joe's 'Ali' Pump
A couple of Manic Mondays ago, I recapped you on my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale purchases. These pumps were on order at the time, so now that I have them in my possession, I thought I'd follow up with my review! Unfortunately, it looks like only black is available online, and in limited sizes at that, but just in case you happen to run into these in real life - you will know how I feel about them.
And the fact is, I love them.
I've heard some people complain that they have a short toe box - and that definitely is the case. I do get a bit of toe cleavage, but it doesn't bother me. They come pretty high up on the ankle, and I was afraid the rubbing would cause blisters throughout the day - I went to work prepared with all my typical shoe aids, but I was pleasantly surprised that the shoes "softened" more and more as the day went on. I didn't have to doctor them or my feet at all! I was also afraid that the heel height would be too tall, but again, my feet were fine - even without ball of foot pads in them. I've been ordering a half size up on narrower shoes, but I was able to order my actual size in these, so I do feel they are true to size in terms of width. So all in all, a very successful Anniversary Sale purchase!

For their maiden voyage, I decided to pair them with these soft pants. If you recall, I have another pair I bought from Express that I have worn here and here. When I wore them the second time, I realized they feel a little bit heavy for the summer and I was looking for another pair, more lightweight. These pants came highly recommended by some fellow fashionistas, including Renata, so I decided to try them out. And, I mean, they're $28 so what did I really have to lose?
I was really happy with these - they do run big, so I sized down. They claim to be high rise, but I didn't feel like they were any higher than my natural waist. Granted, I do feel my body is slightly on the high waisted side… This top was the perfect piece to pair with them, and will be the closest thing to a crop top that you guys will see me in! I'm really digging the sporty chicness of this outfit!

Lace tunic, Chloe + Isabel, and a Night Out

I was so excited when I saw this lace tunic from Express. Remember that post last year when I had to rig my lace tank under my sweater to make it long enough to cover my bits? Well, this lace tunic solves that problem forever. I know they make those shirt extender thingies that give the same effect, but well, it's nice to have a real tunic. Plus I can see myself layering this over stuff too, or wearing it on its own - so many choices! I got the idea of layering a tee over lace from Adri's post here. It makes for an effortless and packable look!
Right before I left for California, I got the cutest package from Rosezanne, a merchandiser for Chloe + Isabel. This was the perfect jewelry to travel with, and versatile as well - I wore the bracelet with my tea party dress yesterday also! I had always wanted to try Chloe + Isabel jewelry, so I was extra excited when Rosezanne asked if she could send me some pieces to try in exchange for a review. Needless to say, I'm very pleased and will definitely be looking to see what else I can add to my collection! I hope you'll visit her online boutique and find some goodies for yourself, especially since the Semi-Annual sale is in effect! And yes, while she did graciously gift me these items, all opinions expressed are my own.
I wore this outfit our first full day in California. Not only were we celebrating my sister's shower, but my dad's and mom's birthdays were last Wednesday and Thursday, respectively. My sister made us reservations at Fig & Olive on Melrose Place in West Hollywood. It was amazing - the ambiance, the food, the service, the company!
And to end this photo heavy post (sorry I'm not sorry), I thought I'd share some family photos. Even though we were barely in town for 48 hours, we were able to fit a lot in, and it's always great to be with them. The next time I'll be back, I'll have a nephew!

The perfect peplum

The last time I wore this top, I was Rollin' with the Homies. I really loved it then, and I still really love it now. I'm happy to give it a proper photo shoot.
This top is really the perfect peplum. I do like the peplum trend, but it's difficult with my body type to find one that works great - I'm high waisted and generally biggest in my midsection. The seam of this peplum is high enough to actually hit me at my waist, and its hip length elongates my short torso. It's perfect, I tell ya!
I didn't overly re-create a new outfit - as you can see, I stayed with gold and black shoes, and black bottoms. These are the 5-pocket ponte pants from Express. Unfortunately, my exact ones are gone - I just snagged them last week for their clearance sale. Mine are the ankle length zipper version, but you can find the non-ankle, non-leg-zipper here. They're greeeeat! <--- in "Tony the Tiger" voice. But seriously, they are! I tried on the Pixie Pant at JCrew, and they fit me awfully. They look amazing on other people, but they're horrible on me. That's one thing I've always loved about Express. Their pants universally fit me amazingly, and always have for years!
