I scored this dress on major clearance around the holidays, but am just now getting around to wearing it - not for any real reason, other than, I tend to be a new clothes hoarder from time to time. Since it cooled down again a bit, I was fine going open toed, but wanted more of a covered shoe. I actually had a different pair of shoes on to begin with - just a solid black pair of sandals, but at the very last second, my eyes passed over these shoes, and I loved the idea of pairing colorblock with colorblock. I ran back outside to redo the photos with these on instead because I never get to wear them! These shoes are actually a little hard to style because the ivory block of color causes your eye to go directly to my feet when I wear them. The light pink band in the skirt of this dress balances out the light color in my shoes quite nicely though. Here's a shot of the black shoes for comparison. Both work in my opinion - which do you prefer and why?
Last week I had a couple of people ask me about slips and whether I wear them. I've touched on the subject before here and I swore another time before, but I'm not finding it. Anyhoo - the question was whether or not I wear them, and the answer is definitely yes.
I wear them year round - in the summer, they're great because they give lightweight dresses an extra layer of modesty - you know that moment when you don't realize your dress is see thru until you've stepped in sunlight? Yeah. It helps with that. It also helps minimize wrinkles. I can't say it eliminates them, but I'm certain that the added layer helps absorb your natural "perspiration" throughout the day… specifically in your crotch area - sorry that sounds gross, I know, but you know what I mean about crotch wrinkles when you sit all day! In the winter, it's great for added warmth, and especially great for providing a buffer so your tights don't cling to your skirts/dresses.
I have this full sized slip that I wear with all of my skirts and dresses. This is the best one I have found by far - it's fitted, but not form fitting, so it lays flat and doesn't ride up. The length is perfect, even for the 5'-2" shorty that I am! The fabric is anti-static, so it doesn't cling to anything. It's seamless - no lace indentions or anything like that you have to worry about showing through your clothes. It has two necklines, so it's reversible if you need it to be, though I mainly wear it as shown in the stock photos below. I honestly and truly could not live without this in my wardrobe. And that's why I have one in each color, including a second one in black. I'm wearing the nude colored one under today's dress - you can see it peeking out of the neckline a little, and it doesn't bother me if that happens since it just looks like a cami anyway.
Yes, I realize you can probably find a $5 slip at Marshall's or TJ Maxx or something, and if you do, great for you! But as much as I wear these, I don't mind spending the $32 on them, as they've held up well. I wash and dry them in a garment bag with no issues with quality. The fit is true to size - the small fits me perfect; again, it's fitted but not tight. I've tried the half slip version before but a) they're not as comfortable or versatile as the full one and b) I don't like having another waistband layered under my clothes (that's just one more opportunity for a muffin top.) I wear this even under skirts - the material is so lightweight, it doesn't bother me at all under a shirt.
So, that's my schpeel! I hope that's helpful, and if you try this slip, please report back as I really hope you love it as much as I do. There are few things I truly rave over, and this is one of those things that I will continue to promote until I'm blue in the face!
