Red, grey, and navy outfit

Welcome back to another week! Hope your weekends were relaxing and/or productive. Mine was a little bit of both. I spent Saturday running errands and working at the office for a few hours. Sunday was all about blogging, much like it usually is, though it didn't take me as long to finish like it normally does. I feel like I've been buying all the things lately, which is helpful for blog content but not helpful for my bank account! Anyhoo, let's get started with today's outfit!

Hello Monday: The Fashion Lane Truck

with Jenna in front of The Fashion Lane

I had such a fun Saturday and am excited to share these photos with you! Obviously you all already know Jenna, and by now you should know CS Gems. For those of you who don't know about CS Gems yet, let me catch you up! I ran into them at STLFW last October, and they told me they followed me on Instagram. I felt famous! I've never been recognized from social media before! I ended up following them back that night and fell in love, not only with their account, but with all the pretty jewelry they sell! Stacy and Carrie are absolute sweethearts as well, so it's really tough not to support them. Their great products are truly just an added bonus. They are based in the St. Louis metro area, and they're practically neighbors with me in the same suburb! I've done a couple of collaborations with them already - you can see two of them HERE and HERE.

Jenna was able to join us for our last styling event with The Clothes Line Boutique, and since that was so much fun, we managed to plan another one, this time with The Fashion Lane, which is a boutique on wheels! Basically like a food truck, but without the calories, just some good old retail therapy.

While Jenna was off with Stacy from CS Gems photographing one of her outfits, I got to chat with Laura, The Fashion Lane owner, about how this all came to be. She is actually a CPA by trade, but never really loved her job, it was just that - a job. She was going through a few life challenges, which seemed to be a good turning point to start something new. Her husband asked her what she *really* wanted to do, and was extremely supportive from the beginning when she pitched the idea of starting a fashion truck. About this time last year, she purchased the truck, had it redone, and she officially opened for business in November of 2014. She's been enjoying the experiences and the people ever since! The Fashion Lane is such a great concept! Laura picks a great mix of trendy and traditional pieces for her shop, and since everything was in the $30-60 range, it was hard to say no. I seriously had to stop looking at stuff lest I end up buying all the things.

The first piece I grabbed off the rack was this top! It has a great texture to it, and I loved the shape and stripes. I immediately saw so much potential with it, and the second I tried it on, I knew that it was going home with me.

I decided to go with silver accessories for this particular outfit, but it could easily be paired with gold jewels as well. How gorgeous is this bolo necklace with it? I love grey with pops of turquoise, so this necklace was an easy pairing. I just happened to bring my turquoise ring with me as well, so everything just fell into place! My collection of CS Gems is seriously growing. Beautiful and affordable - what's not to love about them?

And not only do they have great gems, but Stacy is such a fun photographer to work with! These photos were taken in front of The Muny. Laura parked her truck out front, we picked out our outfits and changed right on the truck, then walked to wherever Stacy felt was the right setting  She picked this fun floral backdrop for me, and about one minute later, the skies opened up and we got completely drenched!! Thank goodness we were basically already done with this outfit, but I was mortified at what happened to my hair!! I brought a bunch of hair products, but not a blow dryer! Fashion blogger problems to the Nth degree, I tell ya! It was still so much fun though, and I'll share the remaining two outfits with you over the next week!

Disclosure: CS Gems gifted me some jewelry along with these photos and The Fashion Lane provided me a discount to shop in exchange for these blog posts. All opinions expressed are my own.

What I Wore Wednesday: Random Roundup

Well, I have inadvertently created a series, so to speak, for my blog called "random roundup" where I share all the random outfits that haven't made the blog. I do make it a point to photograph every outfit I wear - these are the outfits that just made it to selfie mode vs. big girl camera mode. I thought I could do this the last Friday of every month, but I noticed I've already accumulated a lot of looks over the last couple of weeks so I'll go ahead and share what I have now. Figured this would be fun for a What I Wore Wednesday type of thing vs. a random Friday. Spreading the wealth to other days of the week since these posts seem to be well received by my beloved readers! As a reminder, since there are so many looks, it would take me forever to find dupes for everything that isn't available anymore, so I'm only linking to the pieces you can still buy today!

Jacket: JCrew Factory | Romper: Target | Shoes: Steve Madden

This is that same romper I showed you guys in my Memorial Day post. (geez, how was that 3 months ago already?!) I had been lounging around the house trying to get blog posts done that day, and then the husband and I decided to go to the movies, so I just threw on my favorite denim jacket (since I'm always incessantly cold in theaters) along with my trusty leopard sneaks!

Necklace: Express | Top: Rubbish | Shorts: American Eagle | Sandals: DV Dolce Vita

This is another weekend look, specifically a casual Sunday dinner out with the husband. I love pops of turquoise, don't you? I honestly forgot I had these sandals. You last saw them here. When I saw them in my collection, I decided to dress around them, and I knew grey and white would highlight them nicely! I wish this top were still available, because it's the next best thing to a chambray and a portofino.

Top: Old - can't remember | Sports Bra: Reebok | Leggings: ZellaShoes: Nike

Here's another random workout one for you. I've had this top for years. It was a top that I wore for real life, not for working out. But it's pretty old and beat up, and I saw it folded in my pile and thought it would be great for working out. All of a sudden, it's my favorite top to work out in. I love that anything goes when it comes to workout wear.

Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs | Top: Annie Griffin | Bracelets: Stella and Dot (1,2) | Bottoms: Express | Booties: Sam Edelman

I seriously agonize over what to pack for work trips. It's one thing if I'm going to a City meeting, because then I can do my usual dress and heels. But when I know I will be walking around job sites, it's a little bit more difficult. I left the steel toed boots at home this time, and just decided to wear my Sam Edelman booties. Oh, and by the way, in case you missed the story on Instagram - our plane got struck by lightening this day! Luckily we weren't on it yet, but we totally saw it happen. The lightening caused a surge in the cabin which blew an electric box. They still boarded us and kept us on the plane for TWO HOURS before they finally gave up. They couldn't fix it without flying in a part from Atlanta. So instead of arriving at noon, we didn't get to Greenville until 5pm. And my morning started at 3am! It was a LONG day.

Jacket: JCrew Factory | Bracelets: Stella and Dot (1,2) | Dress: JCrew Factory (last seen here) | Booties: Sam Edelman

This was day two of my work trip. No, it's definitely not my first choice to wear a dress when I'm going to be around drywall dust, BUT, Aunt Flo was visiting (of course), and it was my heaviest day, and let's just say, I never ever wear pants on this day because it is just asking for disaster. So, I'm sure I was getting weird looks for being in a dress, but it truly is a matter of life or death. That's also why I chose these booties as my shoe of choice for the trip-- because they're closed toe, they're comfy for all day on my feet, and they don't look awful with bare legs.

Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs | Vest: JCrew Factory | Bracelets: Stella and Dot (1,2) | Dress: Express | Booties: Sam Edelman

And this is day 3, the last and final day of my work trip. Again, I wore the dress for precautionary reasons. The vest is great, not only for layering, but for all the pockets - comes in handy at the airport. Coincidentally (totally not planned, or even Pinspired, just great minds), Jenna did a much more girlie version of this look here.

Necklace: Kate Spade | Top: ExpressLeggings: ZellaSandals: Sam Edelman

After traveling for work all week AND being visited by Aunt Flo, by the time Friday morning came around, I was at a "Sweatpants are all that fits me right now" time of my life. I walked around my closet room aimlessly, just wearing these leggings and trying to figure out what top I wanted to wear. Nothing felt right until I saw this lace tunic still laying on the back of my chair from when I wore it last here. (#sorryimnotsorry) I had an "aha" moment when I realized it would look great on its own over a cami. I loved it so much this day, that I ended up ordering it in black, too.

Necklace: ExpressTop: Express (other colors here and here) | Dress (worn as a skirt): Express | Wedges: Steven by Steve Madden

And last but not least (told you I had a ton of outfits), this is what I wore over the weekend for my hair appointment. Apparently, I must normally dress pretty bummed out for my appointments because my stylist asked why I was all dressed up with my makeup done and everything. I don't even wear that much makeup! This tank dress is like my favorite midi skirt, just with a little more give, thanks to the side ruching. I originally wanted to throw a graphic tee on over this, but nothing looked quite right, which is finally why I decided to grab my anchor print portofino (last seen here.) Oh but speaking of getting your hair did, do you always have to take post-haircut selfies like I do? Here's my latest. Not that you can tell I got it cut, but she did take off about an inch.

And that's all I have for you today, folks. Hope you enjoyed this installment. I guess weekend outfits and other randoms add up pretty quickly on my phone. As I collect 5-8 random outfits, I shall share them with you, however that timing works out! And you can always follow me on Instagram if you'd like to see these in more real time. Happy Wednesday!

Manic Monday: San Antonio weekend recap

Sunnies: Tom Ford | Earrings: Express (option) | Necklaces: Gifted, ℅ My Name Necklace | Bag: Kate Spade (option, option)  | Romper: Topshop | Wedges: Steven by Steve Madden (option)

Happy Monday! Is everyone as excited as I am for this Monday since it's a short week? Everything seems easy breezy as a result of the holiday week. Almost as easy breezy as this romper! I told you Friday that I was in San Antonio for the weekend for my Goddaughter's 1st birthday party. I figured, if you can't wear a romper to a 1-year old party, then really, no occasion is appropriate, amiright?! It was luau themed, so when I came across this floral number, I thought it would be perfect.

Left: Source unknown, see pin here | Right: Source

I wasn't sure how I wanted to style this thing. I originally thought about grabbing some nude shoes - like my Rockstuds, but well, that's a bit much for a 1-year old party. I thought my chunky grey espadrilles would be better suited for the occasion. For jewelry, call me crazy, but since I was headed home, I felt like going a bit more sentimental and reached for some personalized necklaces instead. I love the look of delicately layered necklaces like in the right Pinspiration above.

It's always great to go home and visit family and friends. As much as I love St. Louis (and my Redbirds), San Antonio will always be home for me. Here's a quick photo recap of our long weekend!

Maxi dress and vacay recap

I'm only 5'-2" and I own about half a dozen maxi dresses plus another half dozen maxi skirts. I always hear from fellow vertically challenged gals that they can't find maxi dresses that fit them. I don't know if I'm just a freak case, or if I'm just lucky, but it hasn't been that hard for me. I do a lot of my shopping online, and normally I just judge how long the dress will be on me by how long it is on the model. If I can see the model's full ankle/shoe - then I know it will end up being the perfect length on me. I prefer for my shoes to just peek out from under the dress. This dress, I ended up finding at the Gap outlet last summer. I loved the print so much! I just ordered this one from JCrew Factory - I took the chance even though I didn't have a model to judge the length on. (I know, I should know my measurements, but I don't…) It fits amazing and I can't wait to wear it!!

If you're wondering where my island tan is, well, maybe you will see it next week! With my girls' trip vacation and then the husband's boys' trip vacation right after mine (i.e. losing my photographer), I had to do A LOT of outfit planning and take a slew of pictures before I even left for Jamaica. So this was pre-tan. However, in case you missed it, I did wear this on our trip so you can see that selfie on my Instagram here.

Speaking of Jamaica, a few people have asked for all the details, and since I've always recapped my past trips, I figured I should go ahead and document it.

We stayed at the Grand Palladium Resort in Montego Bay. Beautiful pictures, right? There's something so tranquil about palm trees and water. I wish I could say that it was just as relaxing and perfect as it looked, but guys. It was the worst vacation I've ever had. I would never EVER recommend going to this resort - it was the worst customer service experience ever. I've gone to an all inclusive resort about 6 times now - all the same caliber, so I know what to expect. We booked through my travel agent (who has booked many a trip for me in the past), and if you look on Trip Advisor, you will see that the majority love this place. And I just can't see how.

The food was good, the views were beautiful, and my company was so fun! But conversely - the first restaurant we went to, we sat for 20 minutes and never got waited on. Most meals, we would be at least halfway done, if not completely done eating before we would even get our first glass of water. There were ants in our hotel room. The AC didn't work. They ran out of the double bed rooms we reserved and gave us single beds with pull out sofas - no compensation for the inconvenience.  The other two girls didn't get new clean towels the last two days we were there. (Did I mention our shower flooded the bathroom, so we couldn't reuse towels because our used towels sopped up the mess - they ended up having to use the hotel bathrobes after their showers.) Yes we complained, but needless to say, nothing became of our comments. I could go on and on and on, but I will spare you the awful details. Just please, please give another resort your money, not this one.

Regardless, we bonded over our trip, even if it was awful. And it was nice to unplug and be away from work. Not the beach vacation we had hoped it would be, but I should be thankful we even got to go, right?
